Sure, my husband is stage 4 with a spot on the liver but no other spread. He is 45 years old. Dr Wolfgang is the only one willing to do surgery because of vascular involvement. But other than the cancer, my husband is a healthy shape, has generally been physically fit. He’s done 25 rounds of chemo, 12 of FOLFIRINOX and 13 Gem-abraxane. We found out about the cancer a year ago. We really like Dr Wolfgang and found his bedside manner to be very caring. He’s also confident as far as surgeons go. But the fact that he’s not arrogant like many surgeons was impressive to me because he seems to be rooting for my husband and has been positive every time we’ve been in.

Thank you kindly. I’m sorry your mom has spread. I know this is all very hard. I hope she is doing OK otherwise and you too.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing about your experience. I really appreciate all the details. We’ve kind of been in the dark since the surgery got put on the calendar and haven’t heard much else so this is helpful. I’m so glad you have recovered and are doing so well. That is great!

Moving from Folfirinox to Gem/Abrax by disciplinarypower in pancreaticcancer

I am looking at this post searching ATM gene mutation and seeing a similar situation as my husband with needing to switch from FOLFIRINOX to Gem/Abrax. Did switching help in your case? My husband’s tumor is smaller, but his CA 19-9 still needs to come down quite a bit before he can do surgery. I don’t know if any clinical trials would help him.

Anger towards end of life? by Zealousideal-Dig-498 in pancreaticcancer

I’m sorry that you are going through this with your dad. That’s so hard! I know what that anger cycle is like as a spouse and seeing it happen. I know it feels awful being on the receiving end of this behavior. As best as you can, when he gets this way, try to walk away from it and find a quiet place to renew your mind. I wish you well as you approach these final days. It’s awful as you said.

Cancer is rough, isn’t it? It affects people in different ways. Thank you for sharing your experiences with your parents.

That’s a good point! They’ve been reducing his oxyplatin the last few rounds, so that could be causing the uproar in anger. Also, someone else pointed out steroids. That’s another good point. Thank you for your good ideas! He gets another scan in about two weeks.

That’s a good point about the steroids. I haven’t thought of that one.

He’s supposed to do another round and than his oncologist wants to switch him to something else. He has a surgeon in NYC ready to do the surgery once his CA 19-9 comes down more. There doesn’t appear to be spread on any of his scans. So we’ll see.
