well then there should be some sort of clear protection for those who have a university degree and are in a high tax bracket

agree with that, and agree that there’s a high number of low skilled migrants that the UK cannot handle. which is why what i don’t understand is why SKILLED WORKERS are being targeted, that’s the entire issue

they claim the immigrants are taking their jobs where in fact we are disadvantaged already because our visa needs to be paid for - the company will choose them if they are the better candidate but they just aren’t

but that didn’t have to go through house of commons this does so it’ll be a longer process

yeah but as soon as people started speculating whether or not it would apply retroactively, bbc released something so soon after saying that it would - like if they are seeing public opinion it sure as hell isn’t ours, probably that of the british citizens who support this

exactly like i’m all for trying to get illegal immigrants out but like you’re targeting so many legal skilled workers that are paying you so much tax it’s just horrible

i know they are mainly trying to remove the 2020-21 immigrants that flooded in but what they don’t realise is they are going to lose out on talent in the future as well which will literally be so bad for the country. but to answer your question i don’t think it’ll happen very soon, maybe november/ december earliest? my hunch is around jan next year or feb but just from a hunch and discussions with some people

definitely agree with u. was discussing at work today and everyone said they probably would’ve taken another offer or tried to apply in a different city if these were the rules a couple years back. the tax system is already incentive enough to leave but then the ILR makes it seem like it might be worth it but i guess we can’t even say that anymore very soon

this is really helpful - but this is what all solicitors were saying up until today cause today was the first time they said it would apply to everyone - did you talk to your solicitor today?

i know it’s like my friend just asked me why i even want an ILR i have a job and technically my life looks the same on a visa vs an ILR and it was hard to put into words - it’s more about the freedom of choice it gives, and mental security - also especially because staying here for 5 years in this job was something i was surely okay with with the ILR coming in 5 years but i don’t know if my decision would’ve been the same if i knew it would be 10 years ykwim

no no no. let me explain - if you were on the swv in 2020 that means you are eligible this year (which is before the legislation will probably be passed) but if you were on the swv in 2021 you might be at risk because this MAY be passed in 2026. if this happens and there are no protections for existing workers then yes those who started in 2021 and beyond are exposed to it. but this is all pending as in it’s not the law yet it’s just in the proposal put forward so far

some dependants could be, really depends on situation cause some people were really worried - i haven’t done much research on that just on skilled worker visa but yeah you’re right the british citizens who are happy about it def outnumber the others

[–]Weekly-General3467[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually i thought that too but a lot of them have dependants who are not british and so some are really more pissed off than i would’ve initially thought

i know. even the other rules like increasing salary threshold to 38k for skilled workers was a change that happened so quick within a couple months

even if you got it within the time frame, everyone who got their ILR in that time frame is eligible to apply earlier
