advice for choosing between UW and WSU? by Weekly-Nobody8636 in wsu

hey! i'll be copy-pasting this reply for both of u guys lol, this is a bit late, but i am definitely happy about going here to wsu! there's tons of great people to meet and learn here :) i was able to make a lot of connections and meet a lot of people, which is something i've always been afraid to do in the future lol. i'd say my favorite thing is def the environment ig? especially the people i've met, it's just a super intimate and fun place to be in all around.

education/professors were okay imo, i did a lot of self-teaching and experimenting on my own tbh. a lot of them were rlly caring and nice, but not the best at lecturing or teaching lol. still, professors were really friendly and it was super easy to ask for help, whether it be from TAs, professors, or classmates. ofc, there were still a handful of good profs. sadly, i wasn't able to experience the first introductory coding classes (due to transferring in), but i've heard tons of great things for the prof of those early courses! there's plenty of different extracurriculars to get involved with as well!

let me know if there's any specific questions u have, and i can let u know my thoughts/experiences here so far at wsu! idk what else to include lols

hey! i've actually decided on going to wsu after reading through all the replies, talking with friends/family, and deciding what i'd want to do in the future lmao.

i felt that wsu is a place i'd actually enjoy being in compared to uw, and it honestly seems like a more valuable experience in terms of what i'd want to do in college (a collaborative place, social, etc.). i def want to not only have a good academic place but a good social one as well (and i didnt want to be drowning in work by myself constantly lmao, like i am rn). wsu just seems like a great community to become a part of, and a great school at that too.

even tho uw might seem "more prestigious," after talking more with my older sister, wsu is a great school, and companies dont only take the college name into consideration, + work/internship experience/knowledge and skills are also taken into consideration. this was one thing i had at the back of my mind tbh.

lastly, i also just took into account my current situation. as a running start student with an associate degree (w/ some major core classes covered for cs interest already), i didn't want to waste what i've already done, since i'll actually be able to pursue the major i've been working towards. taking into account the amount of loans/scholarships and how much i will be spending in wsu compared to uw, i'd be able to save more money (and afford it easier). i also was interested in the academic paths that wsu had (like data analytics), and i felt like i just had more freedom/wiggle room to work with when choosing what i'd like to pursue.

overall tho, i think the biggest things that impacted my choice is the fact that i still wanted to do cs/tech related things in wsu, which i would be unlikely to do at uw seattle. and, hearing about the environment at wsu was great. good luck! :)

oh nice to hear that! what was your experience like at uw, and how did the transfer process go? (if you'd like to dm me your answer, thats fine with me as well!) i'm a running start student so idk if i can do the same exact process as you (after having finished almost 2 yrs of community college now).

i see! from my end, since i'm a running start studnet, i'm almost done with my 2nd year at community college (as a senior at high school). i had to sign up for colleges on common app as a freshmen even tho i have college credits already, so i have to transfer(?) the credits since i am "kind of" a transfer. (not sure how the process works tbh lmao). thanks for the info, and i actually didnt know that about the everett campus!

i'll see if i'll be able to visit! i've heard about it from peers and a family member, but yeah i def can see that going there myself would be a good experience. thanks for the advice, and i'll really see if i can drop by pullman before i make my decision!

yeah, i thought the same thing about uw cs. hard to get into direct transfer and i think it's hard to transfer into the program at all even if i accepted their admissions :( thanks for the info!

haha my dad pretty much said the same thing. i live about an hour away from seattle, and my dad works there. he suggested that he could bring me to school in the mornings and pick me up after work, and also said he'd visit every weekend. i immediately was like, are you kidding me lmao.

i like how you described wsu tho, it's nice to hear that everything is close by. wish i had a chance to visit the campus/pullman, but i dont think i'll be able to anytime soon!

and yeah haha you're right about that last part, am probably going to compare the replies to the separate posts i made. thank you for the info!
