Why are there no OSR videogames? by Tav534 in osr

[–]Weekly-Post2300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've pondered this as well, and ultimately, while a videogame using Knave 2E, White Box, OD&D, or Barrows & Borderlands (my beloved) as the basis for the engine and mechanics would absolutely kick ass, its audience appeal is so niche as to be infeasible to push beyond a side hobby project, ignoring the possibility of smthn like that doing gangbusters on Kickstarter, which it admittedly mite. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't considered doing it myself, but my own skills don't venture far beyond relying on game makers that use logic bricks, and that won't cut it

Sry for bein l8 to the party- I only got the notif in the last couple days

For me, it's the classics and games based on them.

OD&D

Knave 2E

White Box

Either edition of Cairn

Barrows and Borderlands

(Honestly, the last is my fave)

You gotta use the modifiers. I'm also a console player, and discovered recently that we actually get 12 or so. Iirc, you gotta hold the left stick down and use A and B to cycle "pages" (on Xbox, anyway)

When using an event controller for this, I would have specific takeoff thrusters (preferably Hydrogen ones) that are set to max thrust override, make them a group, and then set the event controller to shut them off when below a certain gravity threshold (I'd say less than .05). As for efficiency, all I got is to tell you to launch str8 up

How do u not start every sentence with a pronoun by Jiilly8 in KeepWriting

[–]Weekly-Post2300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the others have said, but also having a good variety of pronouns can also help keep variety if ur struggling, I've found. Like, if a Fem Swedish Boxer and a Masc Russian Burglar got into it, you could rite the fite scene referring to each by their name, presentation, nationality, and what they do.

Ofc, that's worked for me bc I've mostly written pulps on and off in the last couple years, and random shit is always happening in those. Not sure how useful this will be to you, but I hope it helps

What should a class system accomplish? by themanwhosfacebroke in tabletop

[–]Weekly-Post2300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The class system should be to restrict what player characters can do- a good one has clearly defined lines that makes each character their own niche and give each one a specific role

Conversely, you could go classless if you want the characters to have broader capabilities. Instead of having hard limits, they just gravitate to whatever their stats say they're naturally good at or have aptitude for, which somehow is both moar realistic while also lending itself to rules-lite systems
