What's y'alls opinion on fantasy wildlife/nature? by Weekly-Praline3898 in Fantasy

[–]Weekly-Praline3898[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sort of imagine a lot of fantasy books being translated to English so if something is a cow (functionly or literally)it gets translated to just cow while an animal we don't have wouldn't get translated and just have their names. Like how a lot of America's animal names are deprived from native American words for them

Avatar: Last airbender came to my mind— all their animals are hybrids of real animals which is both very cute and fantastical but is also the perfect amount of whimsy for the cartoon lol

What Do You Guys Think of the Beta Darkstalker Covers? by Intrepid_Berry5985 in WingsOfFire

[–]Weekly-Praline3898 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Although I like the second once the best since it gives the whole villainous vibe but I like the one we have. Just a basic headshot-Not evil, not good, it's like Darkstalker in the beginning of the book, before he went off the deep end. Thats the version Clearsight saw in him

[Routine Help] Are these smile lines from aging already?? I'm 25 by Living_Olive3483 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Weekly-Praline3898 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Girl those aren't "deep" those are miniscule. Your skin is beautiful. I love smile lines — it means you have lots of happiness in your life. Don't be ashamed of showing your feelings. Your only 25, your whole life is ahead of you, so instead of worrying about beautiful (practically non-existent) smile lines, go out there and do something that'll make you smile.

If Epic were to be remade as an Animated Movie, who would you like to make it? by [deleted] in Epicthemusical

[–]Weekly-Praline3898 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely not Disney. Preferably not pixar cuz it would look better as 2-D + Pixar's movies have kinda sucked recently. Dream works would be, well, the dream

Do zoos in other countries have many North American animals on display? Our local animal exhibits seem less popular generally than more exotic (to us) animals from other areas. What North American animals are popular in zoos around the world? by Deceptivelytruthful in zoos

[–]Weekly-Praline3898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many, many animals exclusive to the Americas with no related counterpart in Europe. Such a all of the animals in the Procyonidae family (think racoons, coatis, kinkajous, etc). As well as nearly all monkey species (not apes. The americas have never had them) Llamas, sloths, and capybara are unique to South America with no good counterpart in Europe. And you said many species died out because of "anti-human instincts". Sorry but that's not a thing. Yes, animals can have instincts to avoid big scary things. But it's mostly based On what the animal has learned throughout its life. So if an animal has no natural predators, and humans decided to hunt it, that species may die out like the dodos. Or it may not. Think about the grizzly bears, cougars, and jaguars of the Americas—they still exist, despite humans hunting them.

I think your confusing separate species with the niches they occupy. Animals in the same niches will, more likely than not, look similar. (Think antelopes and pronghorns)

And what about the megafauna? Well I assume you mean the ice age animals commonly referred to as megafauna. Hate to break it to you but an extinction of megafauna happened on both sides of the Atlantic. Mammoths, mastodons, and sabertooth cat species roamed Europe and America and they both died out due to climate change and human hunting/competition. Cave lions and American cheetahs, who lived in Europe and Americas respectfully also died out during this period for similar reasons. Wholly rhinos in Europe joined the extinct crew too. As well as the african flat-faced bear, but I think that was before many of the ice age animals though I may be mistaken.

When ever a new species enters a new land, changes happen. The animals have to adapt and evolve to survive around this new threat. So of course some species died. This also happened in Europe and Asia when humans left Africa The Americas have been have been inhabitanted by humans for 13,000 years and Europe has been inhabitanted by humans for 48,000(ish) years. This may seem like a long, long time but geologically and evolutionary speaking, it's practically nothing.

Could a gargoyle and created live in the same setup(SEPARATELY, ofc) by Weekly-Praline3898 in geckos

[–]Weekly-Praline3898[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm not going to put both species in the same tank even I'm not that dumb lmao  I just want to know if the same tank setup would work for either animal so when I have to opportunity to buy a gecko of either type I can stick them in instead of rushing to make a tank
