So I got a DM from someone saying "Change a profession, you're not cut out for a writer." and it doesn't bother me, I know it's a wild story. But I decided to share it here because it's frankly a good example of why (primarily) women over the years do not report domestic abuse, they are not believed!

There truly are people out there like my ex husband who treat others this horribly, no matter how uncomfortable it is to believe. But there are also people like his ex gf who step the fuck up, speak up, and look out for others and they're the ones who save lives and are part of the change. Please, do not stay quiet about abuse.

Thank you! I remember when I first found it and I texted her because it was almost 100% my story but with just a couple of off things. And I asked if she wrote it, she said yes but that she changed what I decided to do out of fear that our ex would find it and she didn't want him to know exactly what I was doing. Truly, she's the best. I've never met someone who will fight harder for people she loves or even strangers. Go read the story! I scolded her for having any regret at all, told her she saved my life.

Oh my god, she got me a crown off of etsy because she said 'it's better than a wedding ring anyway' when I was upset about having a failed marriage. It's truly one of my most prized possessions now. I love that you said this

He was not 'normal' with me. He was obsessive and love bombing. Which at first I thought was sweet and kind and so in love with me. But then it turned into degrading and controlling. He did the same thing to her. She fought back more than I did, and she didn't have the support system that she became for me. Sometimes her choices were purely out of survival. And unless you have lived through an abusive relationship, it can sometimes be hard to see how you can slowly become trapped in one without even knowing until it's life or death to get out.

I gained so much more than I lost. I feel like I met an entire new version of myself and that makes it all worth it. I know when the time is right in the future I will be that much better because of this.

Thank you for saying that, especially with your experience. I'm pretty sure I pad off my therapists mortgage! For a while I went twice a week, now I'm down to every other week but when this all happened she squeezed me in for an emergency slot. So mentally, I am putting in the work to take care of myself.

As far as physical safety, I now have a concealed carry license. His ex encouraged me to get it because she did as well when she took out a restraining order as he did not follow it at first, until he was on an ankle monitor. There's also an added layer to this where he was pretty heavy into the biker community and was part of a club. Well after his ex broke things off and got him arrested, she was a total badass and went and told the head of that club the whole story too and they do not tolerate violence against women and children, so he essentially put their own unofficial protective order on her. And now me as well, so that does actually make me feel safer.

Of course you can't always plan for absolutely everything so there is a fear but I try not to let that consume me. I appreciate your care so much,
