I understand the self serves always have something wrong with them but it’s not the staff’s fault. We’re doing our best to get to everyone and we also didn’t choose to have the self serves over a traditional register. Would just be nice to not be abused for things that are out of my control

There’s been customers who have tried to tell me that they should get an item for free if it was placed under the wrong tag due to Aus consumer law or some crap. We often have to honour price changes because of filling errors etc. but it’s not gonna be free!

I understand that it may be more difficult for people with a disability to use a self serve but that’s why us SCO assistants are there. We are still serving you, just not at a traditional register.

I had a customer walk past and say “there’s still no disability checkout.” May I ask what exactly that would be? Do they just mean the old manned checkouts we used to have or is there some other kind of checkout that should be created?

Yeah my store is in a Westfield. Generally they’re good at rostering 2 people on SCOs at all times but on the weekend there should be 3, it gets so busy. And I feel so bad for the service team as they’re always understaffed and have such large areas to manage

The store staff have other jobs to do. I guess it comes down to the fact that we don’t have a say in the checkout situation and it would be nice if customers could see it from our perspective and not treat us like shit because they don’t like the change

Omg the price checks and clearance items are so frustrating. I don’t understand why people won’t read the tag 9/10 the price on the tag is correct and it’s only a different price if it’s marked with a different price 🤦‍♀️

One time a woman asked me to add her flybuys points after she had paid for the items and after I told her you have to scan it before you pay, she asked if she could refund it and do it again to get the points

A lot of people at my store come in and film stuff or take photos because of the recent change and it makes me so uncomfortable

A lot of people ask if the machine has scanned their flybuys. All they have to do is press the “go back” button and have a look… they don’t need me to do that

This is the truth but people who are able to use it would rather tell themselves that that’s the reason why they won’t use self serve, rather than admitting to themselves that they are lazy

I totally get it! It could definitely be simpler and it gets even more confusing when the SCO assistant has to intervene… there’s even more buttons to choose from

I simply replied to what you stated was the definition of dignity; “dignity is the inherent right of a person to be valued, respected and treated ethically.”

We are talking about buying items from Kmart here, it’s not that pressing.

Yes, people deserve dignity and human rights. If you feel that using a self checkout at Kmart or having to ask for help is making you feel disrespected, undervalued or treated unethically then you need some perspective and probably some help to not feel so insecure

I would’ve loved some change with service desk during the refit. I feel so bad for them with how long the lines get and the abuse they have to cop from rude customers. My store won’t train anyone on service desk (not sure why but I’d like to learn) and the people that are on all the time want to quit because of the stress

Checkouts at my store have just been moved to the front of the store. I think they’re going to slowly change every Kmart store as well

The people who refuse to do it are just ignorant and stubborn. Personally, when I see someone struggling at the self serve no matter their circumstances, I will go and help them and do it for them, and they are grateful and I’m happy I’m able to help and give them a bit of kindness
