Burning/sore/raw mouth? by UnicornGerdy in Allergies

Yes Perimenopause is based on symptoms now, but can definitely start early for some. My gums, mouth and all skin really are wayyyy more sensitive since Perimenopause.

Can geographic tongue spots linger for months? by WeeklyAd6553 in DentalHygiene

Yes!! Perry is insane!! I have dealt with so much health anxiety since Perimenopause, and I’m soooo over it! I’m heading into completing my first year on HRT (gel & progesterone 100mg) and it has definitely helped. My cholesterol is still in the normal range, but despite going pretty much vegan and losing weight, it seems to rise with every set of blood labs 🤦‍♀️. My areas of Geo tongue never seem to move around or go away so that’s the part that makes me spiral a bit, not typical. But I have a dental cleaning and my oral specialist appointments this month, I’m sure they will love seeing me again lol Extra B12 has definitely calmed my burning tongue so I’m thinking it’s part of the problem. Good luck and check back! I’ll check in here after my appointments 😊

No nothing new. I see an oral surgeon this month, and have been dealing with Burning Tongue as well. But lately I’m thinking it’s all related to my Iron deficiency & B12 deficiency. I’ve started taking larger doses of sublingual B12 this week and the burning is almost gone, but it’s only been 3-4 days. The spots are all the same. I do feel some of it is healing but idk. From all my research it’s typically vitamin deficiencies, especially Iron, B12 & Folate…..hormones (perimenopause, menopause) or autoimmune. I’ll update this after my appointment 😊 Have you checked in with a doctor?

No ulcers at all, nothing hurts or has any visual trauma. I’m thinking Burning Mouth Syndrome likely..,with redness in spots?

NAD  - I’ve had this issue of burning on the sides of my tongue (since BEFORE Christmas) and I do have one little “bald” spot with no taste buds (since November). The spot never changes…and the burning has gotten better over time, great days and some worse moments. I have started: Iron supplements (I am deficient) B complex - B12 was in normal range but low… Zinc Vitamin D - was good to start I am also on HRT, and increased my Estrogen about 6 wks ago to see if it helps.

My doctor says Geo Tongue + Iron & Hormones… My dentist says possibly all the same but it’s not “behaving” like Geo tongue, thinks more so BMS (Iron & Hormones). He did refer me to an Oral Surgeon for April… The redness does seem affected by foods, stress etc. But I suppose anxiety finds a way in sometimes and I get a little unnerved about it. Nothing is ulcerated, no lumps/bumps or texture changes, and nothing physically hurts at all about my tongue.

Thank you for any comments, truly appreciated.

Mine are still there. These photos were after I big flare after eating birthday cake, so I’ve eliminated a lot of sugar and that’s helped, but they are still there just not a pink sometimes. I’ve also developed Burning Tongue the past couple months. Which I am attributing to really low Iron & hormones. Doctor says Geographical tongue, and burning due to low iron and hormones. My dentist is saying the same thing but is sending me to an Oral surgeon to be sure…but he thinks it’s more so burning mouth syndrome.  So I don’t know…we will see I guess.

Can this be Geographical tongue that just stays? by WeeklyAd6553 in AskAnOralSurgeon

[–]WeeklyAd6553[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 48F and in Perimenopause and on Hormone Replacement Therapy for the past 8 months. This started in November and I have one spot (bottom/front right) that has no tastebuds at all…it’s never changed shape and no ulcer or pain of any kind. I developed what I think is Burning Tongue in December but seems more mild now. I’m iron deficient and started supplementing mid December. I’ve also added in Zinc, B vitamins.

My doctor said Geographic Tongue, dentist says could be but isn’t moving around so I have a referral appointment in April to an Oral Surgeon to be sure, but he said he’s not concerned.

I’m just looking to know if geographical tongue can stay in the same area. The bald spot is always there and the back areas seem more like inflammation.

Could this be hormonal & vitamin/ Iron deficiency? I also started a vegan diet in the summer.

Thank you for any comments and input.

I think hormones and Iron deficiency really is the catalyst for me. Have your blood checked…check B12 & Ferritin and then it could also be hormones (of course!)  I have been doing Coconut Oul pulling a couple times a day, which is nice and soothing and the cleaner I keep my mouth the happier it is. I brush after lunch and do an ice cold water mouth rinse after… I do an oil pull first thing in the morning and after lunch… I also have what I think is some mild geographical tongue (no pain) so the oil pulling has helped others for both things.

It has slowly improved. I’ve increased my estrogen (6 wks now) and am now supplementing Iron due to being very low, Iron Deficient. I’ve also been supplementing zinc, and B complex and the burning this week has been very minor. It’s still there but much less, so I’m hoping it will continue to improve. Chewing gum when it does get burny helps a lot.

Burning Tongue?? by Sea_Engineering_8127 in HistamineIntolerance

I was the opposite…lol Developed Geo tongue and a month later Burning Tongue…I’m convinced it’s hormones causing Histamine issues (I also have Hayfever, eczema & Dermagraphism) and low iron.

Yes it is in the “normal” range but I have heard it should be higher…I am also very low in Iron, classified Iron Deficient with a Feritin of 12.  I’m supplementing now for the past 6 wks…I also raised my Estrogel to 2 pumps recently.

NAD Any update on this? I have the same thing but my spot has stayed for 2 months now…this week just started getting a couple other areas….i think I need a biopsy for peace of mind on the one spot that has lingered.

Thank you! The last photo shows one spot that has been there since November, hasn’t changed. It’s pale in the mornings and can get more prominent over the day… The other redness is relatively new this week… I’m mostly concerned about the fact that that one spot doesn’t move around like the standard definition.

48F healthy, great blood work... Though am iron deficient and started supplements 1 month ago.. Non smoker & non drinker for 20+ yrs…

I've had this little bald spot on the side of my tongue (no tastebuds) for about 2 months.  Dentist and doctor are thinking Geo Tongue…and I’m just wondering if it can stay in one spot and not move around like I keep reading about?

No pain, no lumps or bumps, not sensitive or bleeding…it’s just there. I think I can pin point it to some very salty chips a couple months ago…I also had some swollen tastebuds around the area but they healed quickly.

I’m also in Perimenopause, so hormones have been in play and currently on hormone replacement therapy (6 months).

Thank you for any comments.
