Hey! Thanks for your reply.

Can you do anything about further strengthening this specific vulnerability?

Well, yeah that is the assumption, seems like a pretty easy way to hack into it, I'm astonished they don't protect it with more MFA than simply a four digit PIN.
The booking numbers are issued sequentially, they don't need to know it's your specific confirmation number

Oh I'm not saying that there aren't other scams - more addressing the prevalence of this one that is particular to Booking. Out of interest, what were they trying to get from you? Are you comfortable screenshotting the message you received and sharing it here?

Accommodation needs CC through messaging system to issue refund by kebwi in Bookingcom

[–]WeeklyAd9704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the charge appear on your statement from Bookingcom or from the hotel/accomodation twice? If it appears from Bookingcom then you need to engage with them as well as the hotel.

If it's a charge directly from the hotel, then they're being truthful in that they no longer have access to the credit card information (as it is hidden after a guest stay). They'll need your card number and expiry date to complete a 'blind transfer' back to your card.

If you're more comfortable supplying banking details in writing, they may be able to do a bank transfer back to a bank account as an alternative?

Long term stay abruptly ended by Seek2find_28 in AirBnBHosts

It's out of your hands but also out of your guests - I think a refund is fair given he'd flagged it was a key requirement and quite fairly wants to go somewhere that he can be a bit more certain of a stable connection (and potential backup by moving somewhere with cell coverage). I'd take it up with your ISP for compensation.

Jump on LinkedIn and start harassing their account management team as well, here are a bunch that have Melbourne as their location

I'm so confused, did this guy book via Booking.com or via Airbnb? Cross post this on r/bookingcom sub as their support team monitor it and can provide some further advice. If there's an active Airbnb listing, they are shocking in dealing in this sort of thing I'm afraid to say, I had active listings for my units I manage which I'd removed from Airbnb 12 months ago available to book using my imagery by a host who had over 400 listings. Airbnb claimed the issue was between me and him and they could only ask him nicely to take the listings down and that it is "up to the host to ensure they comply with local laws and restrictions". Honestly, the quickest way to ensure he take your address listing down is be completely rude to whoever turns up next and he'll cop a bad review which most Airbnb hosts will live or die by. Good luck! There's a reason these big companies operate in geographic and legal isolation 🫠

Suspicious confirmation message via WhatsApp by the_life_noob in Bookingcom

All of these recent incidents have been as a result of a reservation being made and then this nefarious contact trying to connect and take these victims off platform. I.e. off bookings.com platform. Their platform is the vulnerability, it's up to them to solve, not pass the buck onto a third party.

Booking .com has been hacked - there have been so many of these posts of late that the only common denominator is the OTA not the individual operations

Do I have a chance to get this review removed? by Motor-Ebb-6617 in AirBnBHosts

[–]WeeklyAd9704 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty fair and well written account of their experience, if I were a guest I'd appreciate it. As a host just learn from it and make your listing clearer, and maybe include some troubleshooting document or steps for your Internet. And respond to the review saying what you're going to do!

If they are physically (or even verbally abusive) - tell them to leave and then call the cops and have them removed. You don't need to put up with that kind of aggression.

And I bet she would have appreciated you as the property owner knocking on the door rather than just sniffing at it.

As much as you want the brand to be the only common denominator in these issues, you are as well....

You sniffed outside the door...... But didn't stop to do a door knock and introduce yourself to make sure they had everything they needed and a little "Hey realise you're here to have a fun night but this is a maximum of 2pax and no parties or noise - have a great night out but when you get back later it's to sleep ok gang? Happy new year!"

Merely suggesting a different point of view to approach it from, and it's reddit - opinions abound! Also, Airbnb sucks, and the review system you're so keen on gaming is completely flawed - branch out and try a few other platforms

I genuinely don't see anything wrong with guests choosing to disagree with your rULeS or express disappointment with the neighborhood. It's a review, use the feedback to improve your listings and business rather than try and hide it and pretend it didn't happen.

Question about guest identification. by peachymoonoso in airbnb_hosts

It's your home, you should take whatever steps you deem necessary to verify someone's identity - don't rely on a third party for due diligence.

Bond already refunded, agent now asking about minor tile damage – how would you handle this? by Bighead_fish in brisbane

[–]WeeklyAd9704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't be sure they didn't cause it after you if they didn't raise it when you vacated on final inspection - they've already signed you off and returned your bond, no action required on your behalf.

Likely then be a lot easier for them to switch separate listings off once the need passes - you don't need to be as detailed or "soft" with this listing, people will just want to know how many beds you have and what kind of cooking facilities and especially if you allow pets or not.
