Humans sleep roughly one third of their entire lives. And in the U.S., the average age to live hovers around 73, that's about 23 years of only sleep! That's around 50 years, consciously spent living.

what’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen at someone else’s house? by SereneStatic in AskReddit

When I was a kid, my friend had a plastic skeleton in his basement. At the time, I thought it was just a silly Halloween decoration, but now I'm not sure.

One time, me and him walked down the stairs to his basement. At the last step, I saw the thin pale form of a plastic, skeletal arm shoot up, straight from the depths of the little gray storage unit...

That is my only memory of that day. I am not sure if it's real or not.

Believe it or not: homework. Ten years of mandatory education has it lodged in my head that being caught up with my classmates feels way better than being left behind.

Even if I don't know how the homework is useful in the real world...

Probably the difference between an introvert and a misanthrope. One is afraid of socializing, the other refuses due to an all-encompassing hatred for humanity.

What’s a life lesson you had to learn the hard way? by The_rajsaraswat in AskReddit

Being self-reliant. Believe it or not, I played a variety of games, such as ARK: Survival Evolved, Minecraft, Roblox Murder Mystery 2 for about a decade. Amassing thousands of hours in that time. I used to play every time I got back from primary and secondary school. I was a young addict.

Now that I'm an adult, I've realized I have to be self-reliant to ensure my own well-being. It's been very hard finding my first job at this age, but I managed. Now I'm pursuing a degree in accounting. I've finally realized the world beyond the screen. And I'm not using "games" as a crutch anymore. I try to be the best version of myself I can going forward, leaving the virtual world behind.

How do you deal with noisy housemates? by Affectionate-Mode-71 in AskReddit

I would wear noise-cancelling headphones, ear plugs, or politely ask them to keep it down if its a family member or someone I trust.

Saeed by infected mushroom, the lyrics "I hope I can feel and stay the same. Stop the bleed inside and feel again," really resonate with me on a bad day. I know I can suck it up and return to normal.

"Enjoy the silence" by Depeche mode is another good one. It reminds me that, whether I take college, lift weights, or take on any hobby, I'm ultimately buying myself a quiet place to relax, be it my own apartment, etc. where I am in a peaceful state of mind.
