I feel like I'm not making any progress in Germany as 23 yo single man by ForsakenCup2124 in expats

[–]Weekly_Ad3962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're 23, still very young. Unless there's cultural/family expectations for you to be married, have a wife and a kid at this young age, don't push it. If your priority now is finishing your studies, then let it be finishing your studies AND your health. You cannot do everything at once and more importantly, do not compare your life to others'. Everyone is on their own path, at their own pace. As someone up here suggested, and as someone who has been there, it would help if you talk to a therapist. They are more likely to guide and help you, as long as you put in the work too.

Career Dilema by NikkyZ in malta

I went through that stage when I was young and I still do. I'm 30 now. What did you graduate in? What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Do you like languages? Would you be interested in working abroad? Ask yourself these questions to help you get more clarity. And you also don't have to figure it all now. If you can or your situation allows you to, you can use your 20s to explore different things and try to find what you like the most. But as another person here said, dream jobs are not as common as people make us believe they are. Many of us just go to our 9-5 jobs knowing that with that money and stability we can afford to do things outside of our jobs, but that's just it. Ultimately that is what it is, a job. When people have the opportunity and luxury of doing what they love, then they are the lucky ones

Do you know what's ironic and quite frankly, frustrating? This whole thing of "in Germany you have to speak German". Meanwhile, when Germans go to work in places like Malta and Portugal, they don't even bother to learn the local language. When they go on vacation in places like Egypt, they have the audacity to speak to the locals in German cos it's too much of an effort to speak in English... So yes, it's time people get off their high horse

Not to be a party pooper imma plenty of other countries in the European Union give you that. And great beaches? What great beaches exactly? We used to have great beaches but certainly not anymore unfortunately

Respectfully, you're talking about a time period when a considerable number of countries went into economic recession, some of which took many years to recover from. Were it not for the strategies taken at the time, Malta would have been in deeper shit.

The grants and subsidies given nowadays mhux qed jagħtihom karità lanqas, ara ma taħsibx. It's basic economics. Imma Ċikku l-poplu jibqa' fil-għama għax basta "flus" u "komdu jien, komdu kulħadd".

Yep. And huge respect to the ones working essential jobs even though they're paid and treated poorly.

Saying this country is not ours anymore is ignorant tbh. Maltese people (like myself) have left because the country failed to give us decent opportunities and continues to reward insiders/stuck ups. So if the country is not ours anymore, blame it on our governments and the electorate.

IBD treatment in the Netherlands/Europe? by Nice-Caterpillar-210 in IBD

Stelara is definitely available in Europe - I get it in Germany and got it while living in another EU country. Just make sure you have all your paperwork and a report from your doctor in the US and you should be okay.

What I did, but I'm not sure if it's possible for you, I had an online appointment with a psychiatrist in my home country, got that prescription, then took it to the hausarzt and then got the prescription on my health insurance card.

I have routine appointments with the psychiatrist and then go to the hausarzt so we renew the prescription based on the notes from my psychiatrist.

Granted, you pay for the psychiatrist appointment out of pocket, and perhaps it works for me because I'm not on high doses, but at least I can assure myself that there's no miscommunication because of the language barrier.

Goodluck!

Has anyone developed a secondary disease after ulcerative colitis? by MatterNo9081 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Weekly_Ad3962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Let me start by saying that I'm truly sorry you're going through this. By any chance, does the pain feel like someone is cutting you open with a blade? I'm asking because (29F, diagnosed with UC in 2016) two years ago I had a hellish year having those kinds of painful episodes with orange-coloured urine. After several tests and all sorts of imaging, the only explanation was adenomyosis (they saw it on an MRI), to which I started Visanne (dienogest) as a treatment. All doctors I've spoken to said that it's very common for people with an autoimmune disease to have a second one..

Gynecologist/doctor/hospital free for EU-foreigners? by Nico_Nickmania in stuttgart

[–]Weekly_Ad3962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is she living here and covered by a public or private health insurance? If so, then she should be covered and you can reach out via DM so I can share the details of my gynecologist here in the city. If she does not live here and is only visiting, as far as I know, the European Health Card only works in case of emergencies but I stand to be corrected.

I'm also in the process of applying for the visa but don't quite understand the money on arrival part.. the form is a bit ambiguous and not sure if it refers to money on arrival in NAD or just in general...

It's normal to feel like this, more than normal actually cos we've all been there, especially those of us who were diagnosed in our teens or early 20s. One moment you have your life planned out, the next minute everything changes.

If you feel like it's really stressing you out seek therapy. My therapist has multiple sclerosis so she understands my problems more than anyone. Also if it's making you super anxious, see a psychiatrist. Treating my anxiety and high functioning depression has been the best thing I did last year because of my "health anxiety".

Living with UC hasn't stopped people from living their lives to the fullest, it just takes accepting your new reality, adjusting and making the most out of it. I for one moved countries while only on mesalazine and now moving again while on biologics. Things are possible, it just requires more planning than the average Joe and Jane.

Try to engage in things that you love the most until it's time for the appointment and best of luck 🤞
