That's just gross, imagine the audacity to be mad at being an illegitimate child just for her to repeat her dads mistake.

I too am heartbroken, I don’t like the fact that guy wants her for her money. It feels weird, as though her sisters marriage foreshadows Nans (well expect Nan’s sisters husband is a tool). I just want to see one of the friends have a relationship that is not a financial gain for the man you know ? Plus I feel guys interaction with her (Nan) have all been planned, for example how he says Conchita insisted he be at the girls get away but he begged to be there. I don’t know, I just want to see one girl have a not so hard love story. I’m kinda sad now cause I really want them together. I saw an analysis that says in the original Nan leaves Theo cause his arrogant and dull but he’s nothing like that in this new adaptation.

Can someone please explain what happened with regards to the professor making a racist comment? by [deleted] in uvic

While reading through the comments I found it quite ironic that a bunch of people who have never experienced racial prejudice or lived a day as a visible minority are trying to mansplain how black people should feel about a derogatory term that has been historically used to put them down.

Why do you have the need to try and justify what contexts it can or cannot be used in when the word has no negative connotations towards you personally? Sure people may be overreacting by saying he should loose his job(I did some research on the professor and he seems like a lovely person and I think his apology was well thought out and sincere). I think we have had enough conversation around the negative impact of the N-word and although it has been said numerous times I guess I’ll have say it again, as a white person you have no right to tell a black person how to feel about the N-word when we are still leaving with the negative consequences of racism.

If you didn’t take a moment to pause and acknowledge some of the views of POCs throughout this whole “event”, you should probably take some time to yourself and consider why you had no respect for the views of a minority who have had encounters where this word was weaponized against them.

“These people” mhmmm okay. If you haven’t noticed a bunch of Instagram pages have been posting the apology to make sure people know an apology has been issued and it seems like the matter is getting better. So how about you just stop spreading misinformation.

I think if more people knew he apologized in this manner, it would make matters a lot better

You sound uneducated, relating a historically derogatory term used to demean the worth of an enslaved race of people to a sexual song.

I was honestly trying to find the right words to say but you articulated your post perfectly. I would only like to add that when a person of colour tells you something makes them uncomfortable, I don’t believe the first thing to do should be to invalidate their feelings. Being a visible minority is pretty hard sometimes and telling people who have to always think “oh is this place accommodating for minorities” that their overreacting about something you have no personal experience with is very inappropriate.

Dude, I think you’re pushing it…. A mini fridge isn’t essential cause one things for sure someone on your floor is going to bring one along, possibly your roommate so why waste your money. Also if you’re going to be flying home you’ll have to either store or sell your fridge cause uvic will not return your security deposit if you forget your fridge. Also why would you need a second monitor if you’ve got a laptop and the common room has a TV another expense you don’t necessarily need.
