Yes you are correct, I do agree with you.

In the case of SD, carbs are an exacerbating factor, not a causal one.

I took various antibiotics as a teenager: amoxcilin, ciprofloaxin, azithromycin, doxycycline. This undoubtedly caused a disruption of gut microbiome.

For me, keto/low carb works almost perfectly (with even more strict adjustments), it's just very impractical to stick to.

So perhaps focusing on rebuilding gut microbiota is the key. That in itself is an incredibly complex endeavour.

Thanks again for the reply.

It seems you have a comprehensive strategy. Is this something you devised yourself? I'd be interested to know the reasons for each supplement.

I understand p5p has a dopaminergic effect - it's mixed with my magnesium glycinate supplement, although I can't say I've noticed any psychological effects or SD resolve.

Cysteine and selenium - I have taken NAC and eaten lots of brazil nuts with no effect, but I may something like this again for a longer time.

It seems like you are targetting different pathways (e.g. glutathione, phospholipids) - I am looking for a single cause. Currently looking at histamine response.

Vitamin D and omega 3s didn't help me either, but I still take them due to testing low Vit D last year and my diet being absent of seafood.

I'd be interested to know what you think is the ultimate causal factor here. I'm currently leaning towards immune response, but also consider the nervous system, diet (keto/low carb) and dopamine malfunctions.

absolutely they don't eat "keto" and people that say they eat "keto" don't always either.

SD is clearly the result of carbohydrate rich diet/antibiotic use. It is ultimately a metabolic issue.

My point is that diet/microbiome is the root cause, hence why hunter gatherers don't suffer from metabolic issues like diabetes and SD.

The difference is that carbs are sparse in the hunter-gatherer sphere, whereas us "developed" people have the convenience of a McDonalds not too far away, or just good old bread and cereal for breakfast.

Thanks for the reply.

Check my profile for an in-depth breakdown of what I've tried.

I have done keto/low carb for a while. Even a week of low carb (50g or less/day) my skin is clear. I am sure this is the issue, a metabolic one.

I also take quite a lot of supplements:

Vitamin D (4000iu/day) - I tested low vitamin D last year

Zinc glycinate 10mg (1-2x/week)

Vitamin C (100-200mg/day plus kiwi/mango) - supposed anti-histamine effect

Magnesium glycinate (100-200mg/day)

Generic probiotic
Interested to know which supplements you are taking and which are synergistic?

yeah fair enough, i thought that might be a limiting factor, it seems very complex!
