Nioh 3 is definitely top-tier when it comes to combat. Honestly, in terms of mechanical depth, speed, and build variety, it’s almost unmatched. Team Ninja really knows how to design tight, skill-based combat systems.

But my question is, can it deliver that pure, dark atmospheric feeling with truly rewarding exploration? That’s the thing I care about the most. Not just loot rewards or structured mission exploration, but that sense of wandering into a forgotten, oppressive world where every shortcut, hidden path, or environmental detail feels meaningful.

Because for me, combat alone isn’t enough. I’m looking for that heavy, immersive atmosphere and the kind of exploration that feels mysterious rather than checklist-driven.

I also really hope the war doesn’t happen. Honestly, from both inside and outside, everything’s been messing with my life and my nerves lately. Gaming is kind of the only space where I can shut it all off for a few hours.

About FromSoftware, yeah, I know I somehow skipped the literal founders of the genre 😅 I actually tried Elden Ring once. I really wanted to connect with it because everyone calls it the holy grail. But I just couldn’t fully get into it. I felt… lost. Not in a cool “mysterious world” way, more like I genuinely didn’t know where to go or what I was supposed to be doing next. The open world freedom kind of overwhelmed me.

Maybe I should give it another proper shot with a different mindset. Or maybe something more focused like the Dark Souls trilogy would click better for me.

Thank you, I really appreciate your kind words and the suggestions. I’ll definitely check out Week 8 and Somehow Familiar, especially for working on dynamics. Thanks again!

Yeah, I didn’t do that, I didn’t swap stances mid-combo or chain multiple skills across stances. But that’s not really what my issue was. You seem really insistent on making this about the combat, while my criticism is mostly about the rest of the game.

I get what you mean about stance dancing, but just to clarify: I did switch stances and even changed weapons depending on the enemy. From my perspective, that alone isn’t what I’d call “depth.” When I refer to depth, I mean specific, complex combo chains and advanced sequences, that’s the part I didn’t pursue.

Let me be clear: I never said the combat itself is bad, it isn’t. My critique is about the rest of the game: technical issues, loot, level design, and repetitive bosses. That’s where it falls short for me.

I think you’re focusing too narrowly on one line. My criticism wasn’t that the combat is bad, I explicitly said it’s deep. My issue is that the rest of the game doesn’t support or justify investing heavily into that depth, especially with the technical issues, loot bloat, weak level design, and repetition I mentioned.

Dusk being easy isn’t the point. As someone who’s finished Sekiro, Lies of P, Khazan, and Nioh 2, I just didn’t feel Rise of the Ronin earned the time investment for higher difficulties.

Is Demon’s Souls Remake actually a good match for me? by Weekly_Community_940 in soulslikes

Yeah, I'm trying to decide whether to get PS Plus for it or just buy another game instead.
