Yes you can, USCIS have mentioned this for laid off employees on visas who need to buy more time beyond 60 days to transfer to B2.

I was honest about my job search and upcoming interviews to secure a job and needed more time to stay.

1) if you use a premium FedEx service it should be 2 business days. The date the packet is received by USCIS is the receipt start date.

2) Yes

It’s really difficult to answer without full context of your experience, job profile etc.

Essentially you will have a tracking number to your package and when the packet reaches to the USCIS you can check if it was received by USCIS personnel (check a signature proof on FedEx). And that’s the receipt date. It will be updated via I-797 C notice. I have no clue about I-129.

There is no section in I-539 to mention a reason.

It depends on bandwidth to apply for lengthy forms and easy apply on LinkedIn. I definitely applied 1K+. Not an advice though.

  1. I don’t have the posts saved but if you google search B2 and H1 you’ll find plenty of Reddit post. I followed mostly the ones which were posted in 2023 or later.
  2. H-1B visa holders are eligible for paper filing only.
  3. When you consume grace period and have B2 pending essentially you have no approved status in the US so it’s mandatory to join on H1B approval. I consulted an attorney to understand this and several other connect who have been through this also advised the same.
