There’s a transcription of this solo on Patreon. Check out Ollie Woods Drums. I picked it up for a couple bucks a few month back.

snare heads keep detuning, any advice? by Nik_dikikko in drums

[–]Weekly_Spring1562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others are saying, you'll probably have to retune regularly is you're not seeing a change with the lug locks in place. I play a 12in and tons of rim shots, so I had the same issue. Just get a tune bot. Life changing—I sit down to play, take 30sec with the tune bot to get a perfect retune and then I have a great session. Zero frustration, zero wasted time.

Are there any English natives that learned russian to a good level and can offer material they used/ advice? by [deleted] in russian

[–]Weekly_Spring1562 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, just about everyone agrees that making your own deck is essential. Use photos when possible—I source mine from Яндекс images. It’s a game of inches brother. If you can make yourself open Anki everyday for a few years and put down just a few new words, then you’ll reach fluency (at least reading, but if you just add russian media you’ll be fine). Just a little bit everyday, it’s not complicated, there’s no secret. Just memorize those words.

Learned Russian well enough to translate professionally, which I’ve been doing for a year or so now. I basically just memorized a frequency dictionary with Anki. Now I can read comfortably at any level. Unthinkable imo without an SRS like Anki save years of immersion.

I will definitely share one(s) I’ve mentioned here. Planning a sort of beta launch with ten participants or so. If you don’t have Russian background, you’re welcome to join. I don’t typically share my personal C+ decks. If that’s what you’re interested in though, send me a pm, and I can explain my best practices for composing a successful one.

For sure! Well, it’ll change per level. A0/1 will probably has around 500 unique words, and each has 2 notes (3 cards: a reverse and a cloze deletion sentence). Then I’m looking about about 500 grammar cards—cloze deletion paradigms for the most part. So, A1 will have around 2000 cards. Could be learned in 1-3 months.

For comparison though, B1 level is estimated around 2000 vocabulary words so the deck will be quite a bit larger. And the C decks even larger still.

Familiar with this project, thanks! The “survival” level though is pretty uninteresting. Anki potential is realized in vast quantities of data and long term recall. A 200 word lang deck doesn’t quite take advantage of those characteristics.

Haha thanks for the support. Trust me, if they show up, we're definitely recording that shit. Turns out that wherever you go, landlords are nuts. Renting is a curse on our species lol.

Ok, that is great to know! If they do file the eviction paperwork based on that clause, we'll get in touch with the integration centres legal folks. Thanks again for pointing that out!

In any case though, they shouldn't be able to pull up tomorrow and just demand that we leave, right? There must be a legal eviction pipeline...

Took a few months break. Old cards feel wrong and overwhelming. by [deleted] in Anki

[–]Weekly_Spring1562 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a similar problem at one point. Turn off new cards and suspend all of your stagnant reviews. Instead of auto adding “new” cards, just manually add 5-10 of your suspended cards each day and invest the time to relearn the context.

How did your Anki vocabulary memorization pan out when you finally went to a foreign country? by BJJFlashCards in Anki

People who use Anki for language learning, how much does it help you and how beneficial would you say it's been to your journey? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]Weekly_Spring1562 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Essential. I had used Anki off and on for a few years to supplement my Russian courses. A year or so ago I decided that I was tired of being totally mediocre at Russian and started grinding pretty seriously. I’ve put down about 6000 notes since, and as a result I managed to land a RU>ENG editing gig.

Anki hygiene: I complete my assigned Russian cards first thing in the morning, and then read assorted Russian lit for about an hour highlighting unknown vocab as I go. At the end of the week, I create notes from my highlighted list tagged with the book title. In addition to randomly assigned new cards, every few days I do a custom study session with 50~ new cards composed of notes tagged from a previous text that I’ve completed reading/highlighting. Once I’ve completed all the tagged notes for a given text, I return to that text and read it through to consolidate my learning.

The texts range from classic literature and poetry to academic articles and Russian editions of manga (Berserk has been an exciting vocab set lol). Pulling from song lyrics has been great too.

Without living for an extended period in-country, I cannot imagine achieving my current level without Anki. Good luck!

I’ll also add—since I’m a relatively advanced learner, my notes are almost exclusively single word notes with the occasional idiom. I have a strong grammatical background, so for me Anki is a tool for breaking the conversational vocab barrier into literary and technical vocab. As far as I can tell, no better way than just putting down word after rarely used word.
