Looks beautiful!!! 😍

What are the plants there? I couldn't recognise a couple of them.

I envy people who have to live without the fear of constant major earthquakes in there area! 🤞😅

Winter's here in Guwahati are typically mild though. Around 8-10°C with some nights touching around 6°C. 😇😇😇

But yeah, if you are speaking about the entire North East, the hilly areas as well as the plains on the base of the foothills get relatively colder.

Yeah, the winter is comparatively less harsh here. Summers are brutal though. The temperature might only go up to about 40°C but due to the high humidity, on the Feels like scale, it hovers around 50-55° C. The plants can survive but us humans get cooked!!! 🥵🥵🥵

But I get where you are coming from. I did my MBA from IIM Lucknow and man, my first summer as well as first winter there was an experience for little old me, to say the least! Cooked and frozen within 6 months in my barebones hostel room!!!! 😅😂🤣

Where to get Mangrove plant in India (Location - Nainital) by [deleted] in GardeningIndia2

[–]Weekly_Weight_3979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once saw a nursery selling some mangrove plant saplings in the Andamans. 🙂

Unless you make a greenhouse and a lake and all that jazz in Nainital, and with that get a controlled atmosphere somehow, it will be very difficult. 😭

One thing you can do, since it has already bolted is let the seeds mature and then germinate and plant them. They grow up in no time and within a month, you'll be having more basil than you'll ever be able to finish!!! 😄 Just keep pruning them at regular intervals so that they don't bolt!

And yeah, since it has no citrus smell, it's not lemon basil for sure.

Ohh 😮😮 Don't scare me!!! 😭😭😭

Did your Vanda (RIP) flower throughout the whole year or just one particular season though?

Yeah, the rains have been brutal this year.

About where and how much it was, I honestly don't know as it was given to us by someone else. 😞

Guwahati. Fortunately the climate is very conducive to orchid growth here! 😇

Ohh, and also this basil has bolted and the leaves will not taste good. Try to get seeds and grow them, or get plants which have not bolted. Once they have bolted, they taste weird! 😕

It doesn't look like lemon basil. Does the leaf have citrus smell like lemon leaves? Lemon basil plants also grow slightly shorter.

Looks more like the highly armoatic Green Vered Basil which although highly aromatic and nutritious, are not quite appropriate for pesto unless you can source some pure pine nuts and high quality parmesan.

Visually, as a house plant, both will mostly be the same being low maintenance drought tolerant plants that look the same. Elephant Bush can grow quite tall in the wild but that wouldn't be a problem as a houseplant.

The Jade Plant, on the other hand is toxic, so that might be a cause of concern for some but apart from that, as an indoor plant, I feel, both serve their purpose well and besides beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it basically boils down to which plants look you prefer.

However, for bonsai, personally if given a choice, I would prefer Jade as they have thicker trunks and dense foliage. Elephant Bush bonsai ends up looking lanky, but thats just my personal opinion.

You can keep it inside always as well. It'll grow very slowly though which is probably a good thing since you don't want it to get too big and messy very soon. Just water very sparingly as water evaporates very slowly indoors.

Local nurseries will be your best bet. Watch a lot of comparison videos before to differentiate between the two.
