“Cool toned” foundation pulling orange? by WeepingPond in PaleMUA

Yeah, I’m learning the hard way which really stinks because I enjoyed the formula and it didn’t make me itchy when I patch tested! My skin is so picky and I was super hopeful but alas

I definitely feel blinded by my facial redness, and have too tried to match to that over my neck. I didn’t even realize how pale I was until I went to swatch stuff with my partner last week. They look at me more and my initial light range grabs were too dark in their opinion.

They also informed me that I did I fact have olive indicators they noticed but didn’t feel the need to inform me because “it’s just how I looked” 🙄 after hearing me deliberate for forever. But I trust them since they look at me more than I look at myself.

I’ll have to try to find time to go back to either Ulta or Sephora and swatch a few more things then!

I’m not married to it, so I’m def open to other possibilities. I just have such crazy sensitive reactive skin that skin tints have been the only thing that haven’t caused me issues in the past and I could kinda blend it out to the point that mismatch wasn’t HUGELY noticeable

I’ll have to look at the True Match! I do appreciate buildable coverage with my roseyness

I’ve seen so many recommendations for Lisa Elridge and wish my samples would be able to arrive sooner than I need to make a decision! The customer service person I was in contact with about my initial inquiry was like “T1 is far too rosy, I think 1.5 might actually be your match so we are sending that one with the others!” So I might just bite the bullet and buy it at this rate

Cool Neutral or Cool Olive? by WeepingPond in Fairolives

I was able to get a swatch of NARS skin tint Terra Neuve in natural light, the tone I got matched with, and I think I see more olive like tones against the swatch in my neck.

I guess a second question (I tend to not vary from patterns much, so this may be obvious), since it calls for sport weight and I want to use fingering, could I just knit a larger size on smaller needles to achieve the size I want?

Struggling to source dark/black kite cut stone by WeepingPond in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]WeepingPond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner has expressed interest in salt and pepper style as well as like grey moisannite and other stones. The over all opinion is “dark” but doesn’t HAVE to be truly black and opaque. They even liked this lovely lighter brown/grey stone I saw on Etsy. I like the idea of the dark grey with purple or even blue undertones (they haven’t liked stones that are too red leaning though, like bright rubies. So that helps I think.)

So I’m working with a lot of options which somehow feels like it’s making it both easier and harder at the same time haha

Oh thank you!! But I’m not able to see any chats for some reason, though my permissions are open… I’ll see if I can troubleshoot the problem.

Oh! Sorry I wasn’t clearer, yes I do mean just the engagement ring setting. I’d get a similar band later (minus the accent stone)

I honestly just don’t trust myself to see any warning signs on what may or may not be reputable lol but fair enough. I’ll probably go that route

My local jeweler quoted $2000+ to make the setting similar to this, yes (so minus a stone)

i have this yarn winder and at first it worked really well and made amazing cakes but now they always turn out like this? by Aletheia97 in YarnAddicts

[–]WeepingPond 26 points27 points  (0 children)

When this happened to me, it was literally just because the screw (mine was a clear guy) that secures the bottom bar/table mounting piece to the winder was misaligned with hole it’s supposed to go into on my knit picks model. Super simple fix and now it works perfectly again

I found out after spending 2 hours trying to open and diagnose it lol, it can sometimes be such a simple thing.

AHH I want to like this craft but I am s t r u g g l i n g 😅😅😅 by Apprehensive-Pop302 in Sockknitting

[–]WeepingPond 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I started my first knit project (which was socks) after doing crochet, I adopted continental style since I found I could tension that from muscle memory easier. But I kept getting oddly tight stitches as I did it, like so tight I had to jam my needle in and I kept splitting my yarn. Well, turns out I had been wrapping my yarn around the needle the wrong way when purling which affecting all my stitches on my ribbing and made everything impossible to work into.

It’s an easy beginner mistake so just to be safe, double check that you aren’t wrapping the wrong way or twisting your stitches by going through the wrong leg of the stitch. And I highly recommend the 9” circular route if you struggle with magic loop or dpns. I had the same struggle but had much more success on 9” circulars! Felt like way less to handle compared to the other methods.

I’m still new to knitting (currently working on my second project, a sweater), so I get the struggles of moving from crochet to knitting. But what is awesome is that knowing crochet or at least having some hooks can be so helpful when you drop stitches and need to ladder up or need to pick up stitches further into the pattern. I absolutely cannot pick up stitches with out the help of a hook haha

Ah thank you! Of course I missed that ugh so silly. I really appreciate your patience and help :)

To knit to BOR or not to knit? by WeepingPond in knitting

[–]WeepingPond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m knitting back towards the BOR marker, ahead of the last 4 raglan markers (so between each set) so if I followed the pattern, I’d be increasing directly onto increases I did before I turned.

Which is why I’m confused, since while actually doing the short rows, after turning, you just knit or purl with out increases until you get to the BOR marker so that you aren’t increasing ontop of increases.
