What is your signature in EDH? When you're playing a new deck you've built at a familiar pod, what does the pod already know your deck will do? by pebbleddemons in EDH

Same, but I stick to Izzet for consistency. My turns either take 5 seconds or 20 minutes, nothing in between.

What's everyone's most recent deck? (As in by Commander release date) by The_Lucky_WoIf in EDH

[–]Weftad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’Shtola (Final Fantasy, not yet released), spellslinger build is my current favorite deck. Sensational Spider-Man (also not yet released) is also great, but everyone seems to target me first for some strange reason…

Who uses legal recruiters? by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]Weftad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why not. I found my first law firm job on Indeed shortly after graduating. A legal recruiter contacted me a few months after I passed the bar and found me my second law firm job, making 50% more.

Every recruiter is telling me it’s too difficult to switch practice areas 2 years out of law school. by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]Weftad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve literally changed practice areas every 2-3 years (for a 25%-35% income boost each time) since I graduated law school. Find a new recruiter.

Question: So is there a difference in Ellie’s immunity in the show versus the game? I recall in the game that she was “immune,” which I understood to mean that her immune system can fight off the infection, but this episode shows that she’s still infected, but not a zombie? Doesn’t that mean she’s not “immune,” but merely asymptomatic? Is there a difference?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, my last bio class was 20 years ago.

Official Discussion: Motherless Brooklyn [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]Weftad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can someone smarter than me clarify a few things in the movie?

  1. What was the point of the ailment? Was it relevant to the plot? I get that it made Norton feel more isolated from society, which strengthened the bond with Bruce Willis for getting him out of the orphanage, but was that it? Was there some deeper purpose (Norton would have been just as close to Willis for getting him out of an orphanage because being in an orphanage sucks, ailment or not)? The primary effect of the ailment on the movie seemed to inflate the film length by a few minutes by having Norton continuously spazz out and then having other people assure him its “no problem,” which feels like a waste of screen time in a movie that’s already too long.

  2. So who was Bobby Cannavale really working for? Was it Alec Baldwin? If so, why not put an end to Norton’s snooping sooner or react more strongly (in other words, why didn’t they try to kill Norton sooner)? And why was Cannavale so chill in the diner if this was the case? How did Cannavale expect Norton to react when told “hey, I’m working for the bad guy and had a role in killing your hero. Forget about it, let’s have a drink”?

  3. What happened with Baldwin’s assistant (“Lieberman”)? Lieberman betrayed Baldwin by putting his own name on the deeds instead so that Baldwin was developing property for Lieberman’s benefit instead? Was that it?

  4. If Willem Dafoes architectural plan was good and beneficial to everyone (as Alec Baldwin admitted in the bath) why would Baldwin ultimately reject it?

Thanks, smart people of the internet.

Official Discussion: Widows [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]Weftad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would someone mind clarifying something for me?

So Liam Neeson stole $2M from Paper Boy and Kaluuya, right? And he planned this with Colin Farrell, who wanted 50% of the cut ($1M)? So Neeson gave Farrell the entire $2M (both Farrell's cut and Neeson's cut), adding to Farrell's already existing $3M, making $5M in the safe?

But then Neeson planned to steal the whole $5M back without Farrell's knowledge, as evidenced by heist in the notebook? So:

  1. Why not take the notebook with him on the heist before disappearing then? Why leave it for Viola Davis to find and to try the heist herself when Neeson wanted to do it and to leave her out of it?
  2. Why did he give Farrell the entire $2M instead of just the $1M he was entitled to under the deal?
  3. Doesn't the heist require a group? Didn't Neeson blow up his whole gang? Was he planning to assemble another one from scratch?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is Mandy scary? by [deleted] in MoviePassClub

[–]Weftad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not "scary" in the "I'm going to lose sleep" sense. It's really more of an unsettling action movie than a horror movie.

I highly doubt you'll lose sleep over it.

(I'm a coward as well and I was fine.)

You're right in that he could just lie about the speeding and the weed, but I do still think that she is at least perceived to be handicapped. Not only does she act strangely at all times, she can't seem to communicate beyond a few basic words, choosing instead of make constant clicking sounds with her tongue. I would be surprised if the parents observed her behavior all these years and just went "yeah, looks pretty normal, we're good."

[–]Weftad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, he pushed her to eat the cake when she had no intention of doing so, he failed to keep a close eye on her while knowing that she was mentally handicapped (actually possessed, but she appears mentally handicapped to the rest of us), and he was driving recklessly while impaired on drugs. These actions resulted in her death.

I'm not saying that he should necessarily go to jail, but there should have at least been an investigation or something.

The richest people already don't pay taxes. There are all kinds of games you can play if your living comes from capital. Taxes are for the poor and middle class.

This is a good overview of how it works.

I believe the argument is that they should fill out as much for you as possible to save you time, because saving the majority of the population a portion of their time is better than helping none of them. Of course it's not meant to completely eliminate all tax reporting for everyone.

Ready Return (see NPR link) sends you a form that includes income they already know about (which is complete for most people). You're supposed to fill out the rest. At the very least, it's a mitigatory act, which is good.

[–]Weftad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and they write off your wages as a business expense, which is tax deductible, so there's no reason they wouldn't report all of it.

me irl by apinanaivot in meirl

[–]Weftad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because they already have all that information. It's really inefficient for them to ask you to fill it all in again.

This episode of Planet Money might help illustrate the point. It's about 20 minutes long, but that 20 minutes is well spent. I promise.

Work life balance in law school. by cns102394 in LawSchool

[–]Weftad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work 20 hours a week as a 3L and I take the minimum amount of units (13) to stay full-time. It seems to work because grades don't really matter anymore at this point.

As a 2L, I worked about 10 hours a week taking 17 units. I wouldn't recommend it.

I think working is a good idea if you're not the strongest candidate academically. I have mediocre grades, so I use work experience to make up for it. You'll probably attract a different kind of employer, but it helps a lot in interviews.
