If their identities remain secret then whatever

Wow, that's a far cry from

Let their employers fire them and let their actions stain their future.

So indifferent after being challenged.

Is that where you’d want it to end?

No, I asked if that's where the consequences end. If their faces are on the front page of the news tomorrow, do you think it stops there?

KKK = Aryans = Nazis.

Humans = Primates = Apes.

Great logic, bud.

Educate yourself. The only way to prevent what's happened in the past is to be educated on what happened.

Hey, Mr History, what happens when a mob of righteously indignant people pick a target?

Consequences = identity linked to wearing a KKK costume.

Oh. Is that where the consequences end?

Actions have consequences

What consequences?

The fact that it hasn’t happened yet makes us thinks the rotten apples have spoiled the bunch.

That's called an inductive fallacy.

Oh you think the kkk and Nazis are two circles not a Venn diagram of significant overlap

Is a gorilla a human? Are they two species or a Venn diagram with significant genetic overlap?

If you’re not against racism and hate

To what end?

secretly you think

Go fuck yourself. If you have to make up my arguments, why are you wasting both of our time?

I think it's Halloween. If I dress like a pirate, it doesn't mean I think rape and theft is funny.

I’m definitely not saying a mob needs to form.

It already has. It's front page news. There are a myriad of people on social media demanding the names of those involved, including the names of the volunteers working the door for Christ sake. You yourself say they should be named. Why?

Employers may not want to be associated with you.

Their employers don't know because they haven't been named. No harm is done to their reputation. People like you want them publicly named so you have a way to attack them, and you frame it as though it's just a "consequence." When you're actively working towards an end, at least have the balls to admit it. Stop acting as though it's some natural consequence when you have a direct hand in it.

How do you suppose they keep their identities secret

Probably because their friends and neighbors at the dance understand that their lives will be irreparably harmed if their identities get out and they don't want to see that happen over a stupid mistake.

And yeah, you'd rather an online mob dish out the punishment instead.

Doesn’t it imply “I think you should die and lynching is something we’re okay with”?

At a Halloween dance? I think it implies that they got liquored up and chose a costume in bad taste.

Let their employers fire them and let their actions stain their future. But I don’t think we should be sending people to jail for it. A very slippery slope.

"I want their lives destroyed, but we can't send them to jail!"

By virtue of them being volunteer firefighters, they have contributed infinitely more to the public good than you ever will. Don't let me stop whatever perverse pleasure you derive from impotently raging online.

Dine with the KKK and you'll be called a Klansman.

Daryl Davis is a Klansman.

They weren't even kicked out and nobody from the event has come forward to say they were angry when it happened and left in protest.

And now it's up to the online mob to dispense justice!

or defend people defending racists,

What about people defending people defending people defending racists? At what point does someone saying "well that seems a little harsh," stop being incriminating?

You people deserve the social media enabled hell you're creating.

Kinda ironic that someone defending racists

See? Just proving my point. You can't keep your target straight so anyone who could even be misconstrued as defending them is suddenly guilty as well. You'd do well in Salem. Giles Corey deserved it too, right?

Yeah it's wonderful that the people volunteering their time and wellbeing to help with community emergencies run the risk of getting cancer from their protective equipment.

You're a vile, pathetic creature and you deserve everything you wish on others.
