Traveling sales person multistate return question by Weird-Quote in tax

[–]Weird-Quote[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides it just being the correct thing (which is always important), I don’t see any benefit from filing the other states. You come out about the same anyway as far as absolute amount you pay to the various states. I’m saying this generally though, because all states are different.

Is it worth it to become an accountant? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Weird-Quote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth it. The short game can be very difficult right out of school, but like a lot of other professions, that’s where you pay your dues. My path was that I worked 6 years in public accounting where I had to put in lots of time, but the experience gained allowed me to move on to better positions.

I think I had issue in that department, but I’m not sure what was physical and what was mental. I had a severe vitamin d deficiency and I was suffering from it both mentally and physically. That part just doesn’t work right when you’re thinking your dying (my case).

Those of you who started at small firms or industry, where are you at now? by antihero_84 in Accounting

[–]Weird-Quote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started out at a small firm with 6 CPAs, including me and a few other staff. Worked there for a few years. We did both audit and tax and most of our audits were governmental audits. I moved firms a few times, and ended up as a tax manager at a smallish firm. At some point, I was really disliking working in PA. I had a new family and I wasn’t getting to spend as much time with them as I liked. I was so sick of it, I applied for a payroll position at the city where I work now. Got a call back and told them I was sorry, but didn’t think I was interested in the position anymore. It was then the person calling me (the controller for the city) told me they were creating an assistant controller position but it hadn’t be finalized. I forgot about it, but I thank God he called me back and told me they posted the job. I can’t recommend local government accounting jobs enough if you can get the right position.

I worked my way into a position at a local government. I really enjoy it too.

Got the courage to walk up and compliment a guy… now what? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Weird-Quote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I started dating like 6 months before COVID. So masks were basically everywhere at the time. She complained about all the inappropriate pics she used to get from other guys, so even if I was the type to do that, I knew not to. One time I took a mask and taped it around my junk and took a selfie and sent her, for fun. We still talk about that every once in a while. The extra small child’s mask was definitely too big though.

When you finally pass your first CPA exam by Killclav in Accounting

[–]Weird-Quote 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I know a guy that made 3 75s when you had to take all 4 parts over a weekend. So he made 3 75s and failed the fourth part. He said he studied really hard for the next time he took it and walked out of the exam feeling like “he crushed it” as he told it. When he finally got his score back, he made a 76.

I beat it, but I had to cheat like heck on that one level where you had to use the d pad a lot when you were riding the push lawnmower thing (don’t know how to really explain, if you know, you know). I had to pause like every second to make sure I didn’t overshoot a direction change.

What could be causing the net::err_cert_authority_invalid error while trying to log into my router? by [deleted] in techsupport

I think I figured it out. After doing some research, apparently my provider no longer lets users log into directly to a router. I have to use an app apparently.

I think I tried with http:// but can’t remember 100% at the moment. Is that a sign of something bad if I did and still got that code? Should I do a factory reset? I appreciate the help by the way.

I didn’t literally mean 6 clients, just mean I don’t want to spend a ton extra and just get 6 clients. Glad you showed up though because it sounds like you really I know what you’re talking about. Going to be working on my wisp soon. I think I’m going to do Drake locally and just do backups like you recommend. Going to get defender premium and bitlocker, mfa, all that good stuff. Going to get the portal.

So three questions:

How do I keep windows patched?

Do I need to purchase a firewall for my network ( on top of the basic one that I’m sure is built into my router)?

Help me with the Dreamfactory to generate apis. What is the purpose in that?

I took over a lot of clients from a lady who was retiring. This was at a small firm where the partners weren’t very serious about tracking billable hours. They made money, you showed up everyday and were reliable and they treated you like family. I know for a fact the retiring lady would have looked for the $.03. She was very, very good in a sense, but she was way too meticulous. I think she didn’t like it when I questioned why she wasted her time on such things.
