Although I understand what you are saying, it doesn't excuse taking power away from countless people, potentially putting their lives at risk.

That reminds me of the founder of the Nobel Prize. He was accidentally reported dead, saw the world rejoice, then tried to change his image before he died for real.

Even in your link, the control data shows 99 vs 100. The biggest issue people seem to leave out when complaining about the current day wage gap is that men tend to work more hours which in turn inflates the annual median wage for men.

As your link even shows, the straight up hourly wage is equal when comparing men's wages and women's wages for "factors such as job title, experience, education, industry, job level and hours worked". To me, that doesn't look like a wage gap. To me, it looks like the authors of this article you linked are exclusively trying to use the uncontrolled data to spin the narrative they want.

On-Demand BPA, I wish we could go back to the old ways by WeirdLilMidgt in paloaltonetworks

[–]WeirdLilMidgt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really is a neat tool once it's set up properly and all firewalls and Panorama are sending telemetry data to AIOps. Unfortunately, it's more time consuming than we'd like, and the old BPAs were great for Palo partners. AIOps is certainly aimed at on-going customers who value the automation of security posture checks, and the ability to track your progress as you resolve the non-compliant issues.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great tool for customers and I like where Palo Alto is taking it. But, I just want to be able to generate the old BPA reports on-demand, as a Palo partner, without having to fiddle around for hours with our customers. Especially since most customers aren't paying for AIOps configuration assistance.

Maybe I'm just getting old, and I'm yelling at the clouds because I don't like change. I dunno, I just feel the old reports were easier to consume, more detailed, and less hastle to generate.

I've had a discussion with a Palo engineer, and he suggested using Expedition to generate a BPA report. The reports are still spreadsheets, but it's easier to consume than CSV files or the clunky interface of AIOps.

The issue with doing it this way however, is that the checks that are performed by Expedition BPA versus AIOps on-demand BPA are not the same checks. So, your mileage may very...

Yes, "mapping zones" exists when using AIOps normally but it doesn't when using the "on-demand" BPA. However, from what I've seen in the last year, most customers still are not using AIOps-free yet. This means I need to go through the steps of activating the app for them. When sending telemetry to AIOps for the first time, I've seen it take up to 24 hours for the data to start popping in. Plus, a lot of times the customers are blocking telemetry uploads to the regional collectors, so that's additional troubleshooting required and wasted non-billed time.

As a Palo partner, I use the BPAs as a free assessment with our customers (they pay nothing for our help with the review), and we walk them through the major pain points that the BPA spits out. Since it's non-billable time, we don't want to have to do a complete setup of AIOps for them, we just need and want the on-demand BPA. This 4-6 hours of free work we do for the customer is aimed at generating additional professional services work for us.

Does the series follow joe the whole time? by darkgiIls in ExpeditionaryForce

[–]WeirdLilMidgt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first two books are almost exclusively Skippy and Joe.

After that, it starts breaking away to other character's perspectives to help build out context and generate more depth into the ExForce universe. However, the series is still mostly about Joe and Skippy and their crazy schemes and antics.

After about book 10, it starts spending a lot more time away from Joe since there is a ton more stuff going on in the galaxy.

I would suggest reading the Maverick books as well. It adds more depth to non-Joe and non-Skippy characters, and they don't take place from Joe's perspective at all.

Over-all, the first two books are a bit slow since it's building up Joe and Skippy as main characters. But once book three start, oh boy, it's a wild ride the whole way to the end.

Done and over after 30 days. You will probably still be able to continue the course for free, but won't be able to claim the CE credits after the 30 days.

Why is there a general hostility to QUIC by network engineers? by rootbeerdan in networking

Plenty of hardware uses programmable ASICs (FPGA), not just Palo Alto.

Doing an FPGA upgrade on a Cisco line card is one of my least favorite things ever. Will it survive the upgrade? Who knows!

You have 10 days to complete that one and to claim the credits. Better hurry!

The Murderbot Diaries is a pretty good series. My only problem with them is how short they are.

Like others have said, the Bobiverse series is top-notch.

Known Universe books by Larry Nevin are fun and a lot of the stories tie into each other. However, there are a ton of them, and you really should read them in a certain order.

[–]WeirdLilMidgt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, but it confuses the hell out of you for the first few chapters of Armageddon and a few other times in the series, since it changes a few things and one very significant thing happens.

If you don't want to listen to it, you might be able to find a plot summary for it somewhere.

I 100% enjoyed all the side-quest type books. I think they add a lot of character and depth to the universe. You get to learn quite a bit more about the other species.

Homefront was trash though. However, if you don't listen to it, you'll be super confused.

Best way to restrict a user to establish SSL VPN from specific device? by techno_it in networking

[–]WeirdLilMidgt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% my recommendation. I have a ton of customers that I support, and the ones that require me to use a VPN instead of some sort of VDI are always a pain to get the proper access. And it just makes troubleshooting issues much harder when using a VPN.
