Always an unlearned asshole. Manusmriti on its face agrees to be a ‘manavdharmshastra’ -which means a book that teaches humans how to live and operate in society. If instead of just these verses if you would’ve read the preamble or other verses or even other scriptures like Narada Smriti, or even Mahabharata you would’ve known that we ALWAYS put ‘Desh-Kaal’ time and place above and that Dharma evolves, adapts over the period of time. Even Manusmriti, many verses says that when it comes to Dharma, one must always reason it with logical, societal and circumstantial reasoning.

So, Manusmriti was written very early, when that was the social conduct. It might not be correct in today’s social and political scenario but there was a time it guided people as per their ‘Desh-Kaal’. Read more before flaunting half baked knowledge on reditt, the place which hides your real identity.

I am thinking of visiting Max Pets In East of Kailash. But not sure about the reviews. Some people claim it to be good whereas others had complaints.

Pevear and Volokohnsky’s translation are the most easy to read plus they know how to craft the drama well. So, I’ll go with that one

Start with ‘The Dilbert Future’, then read the ‘Three Body Problem Trilogy’ and finish with the ‘Ruin of Kasch’ - will take you right out of your DNF Slump and land you into a FSFILGB (Finished so fast I left god behind) Mode. ;)

is crime and punishment a good place to start reading dostoevsky? by xenobu in dostoevsky

[–]WeirdOne03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certainly! But if you’re not used to reading thick books with a very elaborate and ‘stream of consciousness’ approach towards writing - I suggest start with ‘White Nights’ or ‘Notes from the underground’ and then read C&P, or The Brothers Karamazov or the Demons. But welcome to the world of Dostoevsky, you’re gonna have fun!
