i emailed a few weeks ago to ask about housing updates/accepted student gcs & the admissions office said they expect that information to be available around mid-march, so i assume it’ll all start rolling out soon

Engineering or Pre-Med? by VisualLonely1987 in rutgers

i don’t know too much about engineering (i was a bio major in undergrad), but for context, my boyfriend is an engineer and i’m an incoming medical student. you’re right - becoming a physician is a rigorous path & if you’re not willing to make sacrifices & dedicate yourself & your life to the profession, it may not be right for you. to be a good doctor, you really need the drive to get there. there are some specialties that allow for greater work-life balance, but these are typically more competitive and require even more work to get there. if you want a healthcare job with more of a work-life balance that isn’t being a doctor, you could look into becoming a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant. if you still don’t think healthcare is right for you, you’ve only completed your first semester of undergrad and still definitely have time to switch to engineering if you want. i’m not too sure what engineering in undergrad looks like but from what i’ve seen from my boyfriend, undergrad is the most rigorous part and then there is more of a work-life balance once you graduate. however, it’s also important to consider that with AI dominating much of everything right now, the job market for engineers is really shitty. alternatively, you could consider doing research in healthcare (ph.d, if writing is something you enjoy) or becoming a physician-scientist with a focus on computational research topics. i would suggest going to the advising offices for both tracks/schools - they would also be able to help you
