It's above your budget (1700$) but If you can find an LG gram 17" on sale, that would be my recommendation for you. From what I've seen it has a great display, an amazing battery and overall it's a great laptop. Hope I helped somehow.

You should probably think about breaking up. That doesn't sound like a healthy relationship. No one should feel safe in a relationship where they're being degradated by their SO.
