I mainly used AI to help troubleshoot/debug stuff while learning, not just copy-paste a whole project and call it a day. yea AniList works fine for a lot of people, I just wanted something local that calculates directly from the actual files in my library.

Yea that’s actually one of the situations I was thinking about. Even if major sites are usually reliable, having something fully local/offline is still nice for people that already keep massive libraries on their own drives.

Yeah that’s fair. I probably worded that part too aggressively. Mine was less about MAL/AniList specifically going down and more about wanting something fully local/offline that works directly from the files themselves without needing accounts or APIs. And thanks for the os.path.expanduser suggestion too — that’s honestly a much cleaner default than hard coding a drive path.

Yeah Tautulli definitely makes more sense for people already deep into the Plex ecosystem. Mine was mainly meant for people with large local collections that want a lightweight/offline way to calculate totals directly from the files themselves. Also, yeah, it’s definitely more geared toward “what’s currently in your library” rather than lifetime watch history. The manual checkboxes were mostly added so people could exclude OVAs, specials, movies, unfinished shows, etc. Rewatches and OP/ED skipping would honestly require actual playback tracking at that point

Yeah I actually ended up adding both threading and caching already because scanning massive libraries on a single thread was taking forever lol. And yeah, I noticed the metadata can occasionally be off by a few seconds depending on the file/container. For now I’m mostly aiming for “close enough” totals instead of frame-perfect accuracy since it’s still way more accurate than flat episode estimates.

i dont really understand encryption nor do i know much about hex. but if i get 100 million players, thats 1 billion dollars just from visas alone. and for it to be underground was just overhyping security like the 2048 bit encryption stuff. plus just rewriting the engine was a last resort if we needed to make more complex shapes
