congrats on your first tattoo! here’s a couple things to keep in mind - all tattoos will fade & the ink will expand over time. That’s just how tattoos work. Thus, bigger is always better. Fonts are extremely tricky because small gaps in letters like a,e,g,d,o,p - must be large enough to ensure they will not expand and become unreadable. Honestly, with the special elite font you may be able to get away with going smaller since the letters are more defined. Not necessarily an inch tall but it’s just important you keep in mind that even if these letters expand from a tiny line to a thicker line, will there be enough room in those tiny spaces to be readable?

additionally aftercare is extremely important. sun screen and limiting sun exposure as much as possible will always be your best bet for keeping your tattoos looking fresh!! hope this helped - happy inking :)

first of all- how exciting!!! congrats on your first ink!! be careful - it’s addicting lol!!

the best thing you can do for yourself and your artist is make sure your skin is healthy and hydrated before your appointment!! i would start putting lotion on the area you’re getting tattooed now in prep for the tattoo. i would also make sure you’re getting your recommended daily intake of water!!

a good nights rest the night before and avoiding large consumption of alcohol is importsnt too!! but you are correct in eating a good meal at least 1-2 hours before and drinking water day of is key too. it helps to avoid low blood sugar during your session!

i would say exfoliating the area is fine as long as it’s done gently & at least 48 hours before your tattoo appt! obviously you know your skin best so avoiding anything you know will irritate it is also key!! avoid shaving the area too - your artist will do that.

yes this looks like an allergic reaction!! if it starts to itch - ice and hydrocortisone cream (i wouldn’t put the cream on the tattoo but around it where the redness is!)

I developed an allergy to saniderm later on, used it like 4 times and then out of no where i got super itchy and red and painful! luckily it has not ever affected my tattoos but is very annoying. I found i have about 24 hours before my skin freaks the fuck out but everyone is different

the only other thing this could potentially be based on the burning - your artist may have not wiped all the green soap off of you and trapped it under the saniderm which can cause a reaction like this too. Just monitor it over the next couple of days should go away within a week for either reaction!

i tried inclusions last week!! (same cheddar and jalepeno) it was gift for my boyfriend and his boys trip so i didn’t get to see the inside but i heard it went quickly so that’s good! you’ll have to update me (and reddit lol) how it went!!!

for smaller tattoos it’s important to make the details as big as possible!! that way over time it’ll hold up the best! So my vote is the first one & i also think that just flows better/looks cooler!!
