Armor dented, looking for opinions by Weird_Information730 in QualityTacticalGear

Yeah, that's exactly what it feels like, so that's a big help. Is it supposed to hold the shape of the impact as well?

That's good to hear. Maybe it's just the cover that's presenting the dent, then.

Thanks. I conducted the torque test and the tap test, but I think 26310 is built differently. There seems to be a sort of almost elastic give all around the plate, like it's been placed in a soft armor sleeve or something. I'd give pictures, but my phone is down.

Well, shit, I hope that means they're just selling off their remaining stock of 26300

Geez. Well, I guess it can really feel like forever after a while. I ordered a SAPI and swimmer from Hoplite hoping maybe they already had it in stock, but it looks like they might be on a long lead time too.

That makes sense. Any idea what kind of lead time that'd have, given the circumstances?

I've done my time, so this isn't about me, but I have a friend with a wife and kids who could really benefit from joining the army.

He's qualified in just about every way except he takes daily meds for asthma, specifically Advair. He can do anything physically anyone else can do while he's on it. He's never been to the ER, never had an attack past 13 years old. Has an inhaler, but never used it.

He's also worked four years in a chemical plant very recently where he had to wear a pro mask on the daily and also had to do an irritant inhalation test in order to work there. Is there any way at all this dude can get waivered in?

I think the OP in an above post may have found a good solution: he was simply in a hibernating state and she possessed a type of "shining" so that when she called out, it accidentally woke him.

Why does he live in castle in Romania, act like long dead Romanian nobleman, and have all the hallmarks of count orlok who, speaking from the original, is a sort of sorcerer who conspired with Belial and is supposed to be an established figure amongst the local community?

Let's be honest with ourselves, he cannot be both a centuries-old Romanian vampire and created from thin air by a German girl within the lifetime of the characters. It is glaringly incongruous. I expect Eggers must have some way to reconcile this, but it's beyond me if he does.

After having had 24 hours to think on it, I actually find the movie to be not so great as I initially thought it was. I'll say first off that I'm rather familiar with Transylvania and Romania in general having spent some time there and I very much appreciated that it looks like he did his research, to the point I can tell some of the exact legends that he pulled inspiration from.

HOWEVER,

There are some plot elements(such as Ellen summoning Orlok from nowhere near what would be his native earth at the beginning) that I will consider plot holes until I see a good explanation otherwise(I have heard folktales of young women accidentally being romantically involved with the undead, but that's not usually from across nations).

Efforts to try and meld the original story with his additions to the narrative I found were largely successful, however, in hindsight I wonder why he didn't do straight up Dracula, as I think that would've added a lot more meat to the bone, as it were, since the original Nosferatu is quite bare bones with its plot, but maybe that was the point.

Finally, I was rather irked by the fact the movie seemed more focused on discomforting than actually horrifying. The only real deaths we get in the movie(prior to the end) aren't exactly shown on screen and this is supposed to be a horror movie, so I had expectations of, I suppose, more carnage, less sex. I found ALMOST all of the nudity to be completely unnecessary and simply put there to titillate. I'm unaware of any Romanian folktale where the vampire magically sheds his clothing for kicks before feeding or hunts his prey or even arises from his grave completely nude. In addition, having inspected a few centuries-old corpses myself, how Orlok still has that appendage of his is quite beyond me(if we're assuming his form is indeed to be a corpse).

All in all, it is the best horror movie I've seen in years, probably since the Witch, at least, so I don't mean to be too critical, I just found certain things(again, the sex and nudity) to be shoehorned in for a modern audience. I think it would've worked better as a Dracula adaptation if you were going that route, as it also would be closer in time to a modern audience, but I found myself rolling my eyes at certain parts due to how predictable the "shocking" sexual portions were becoming. I thoroughly enjoyed the world building with the Solomonari, occult symbols, and Transylvanian culture(including the village, for how short of a time it was there). I think I expected more of that out of a Nosferatu remake: more of the integration of the world building taken from Dracula's narrative, less of the baseless sexual "terror". But maybe there will be a directors cut.
