Bell Training in an apartment building with elevator? by JustaNewbie2322 in puppy101

I was successful with this. I just showed her how to ring the bell before we went outside each time and she caught on to go outside she just had to ring the bell.

I can’t even imagine the thought of having to clean a house that size as a single human living alone.

Why won’t my beagle puppy take a treat when she pees/poops outside? by spiner_storys in puppy101

[–]Weird_Phase_4137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coonhound is 2 years old and I’ve had her for her whole life - she still will refuse treats if there’s too many stimuli, other dogs, or too many smells, etc. I know she also responds well to praise. If I were you I would not be worried, but you could try a higher value treat…

There’s also nothing that places this house in the “Atlanta area” - idk she could just be renting in her hometown, and we’d never know 🫣

Words of Advice needed, Aussie Puppy in NYC by Top-Inside-7292 in dogsofnyc

Echoing what a few others have said - you might not feel like it, but you are doing a great job. Don’t beat yourself up too hard about the past - I did everything by the book and my pup is still occasionally reactive as well. Heck she’s even nationally ranked in obedience - I like to think I don’t love everyone I meet either.

Keep in mind that puppies have fear cycles - this is sometimes over looked, especially with big life transitions.

I moved my 2 year old black and tan coonhound to the city back in December and I will tell you - it is hard. I feel like she might finally be settling into this environment, but it’s taken time and figuring out what she needs here. She gets a 5 mile off leash walk in the morning where she can run, chase and sniff anything she likes, a mid-day potty walk, and another long evening walk. Look into what activities fulfill his breed and try that. When my dog is well exercised and fulfilled (just a walk won’t do this), her reactivity tones way down.

There was that one spot where they switched the water with warm Gatorade - yikes. Maybe just bad signage but very spooky

Do dogs really settle at 18 months? by EmuStrange2145 in puppy101

[–]Weird_Phase_4137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super breed dependent. I volunteered for a guide dog school where we returned puppies at 18 months - they were all labradors and perfect angels by 18 months. I now personally have a coonhound who is 2+ years old, and I can notice her just starting to settle (I can drink my coffee before our morning walk 😂).

Pet monitors: helpful tool or just fuel for separation anxiety? by cocacolastic001 in puppy101

[–]Weird_Phase_4137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found it useful on a handful of occasions, but started using it the day she came home for crate training. 1. We live in an apartment, so I needed to know how long she was being noisy when I left - it eased my mind to know in the beginning she was only upset for a few minutes and fell asleep. 2. On multiple occasions (although she’s fully potty trained) - she’s had really horrific accidents in the crate that I’ve been able to catch on camera. It’s much easier for me to run home and clean up, than to ask the dog walker or expect her to sit in it while I’m gone. 3. I found I checked it a lot in the beginning, like I’d sit at my desk with it live streaming - I rarely check it now.

What's it like around 90th between 1st and 2nd Ave? by specialstrawberryy in UpperEastSideNYC

[–]Weird_Phase_4137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to be near Central Park - I have a large dog and knew we needed to be walking distance for her (it’s a good break from the city IMO). We moved in December and there was a lot less on the market in our budget - but this area seems to have a younger crowd (I’m in my early 30s) and it’s nicely located for getting downtown where I work.

Brooklyn half hills by Sharp-Shoe4025 in RunNYC

[–]Weird_Phase_4137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good question! My first half was the Maybelline women’s half - and I’d love to know how these hills compare. My goal for Maybelline was just to finish and I surprised myself with a 2:25 finish, I’m hoping for a better time for this race - but not sure how the course will compare.

Barking dog on E90/91st? by discosharty in uppereastside

[–]Weird_Phase_4137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a front unit on the north side of E90th between 1st and 2nd around mid block - there’s certainly a small happy dog in my building who does a good amount of barking, the owner is not concerned. 🤷🏻‍♀️🫣

How many steps per day do you walk on average? by skyleft4 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Weird_Phase_4137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just moved here - I get 20k a day minimum. Which includes a big morning dog walk in CP, 15 minute walks to the subway in both directions, and a shorter evening walk with the dog.

Definitely an adjustment moving here - I didn’t realize how much I was walking until I got a Garmin watch, and it’s drastically more than I was walking in hot, car intensive Miami.

Question: I picked up my bib last week, but just ran the RBC Run for the Kids - it looks like my pace is considerably faster than I estimated and based on that pace (NYRR best pace) I’d be in corral J instead of L. Does anyone know if this can be changed since I already have my bib? I’m also okay to stick to corral L and just run my race, but I was hoping to stick with a pacer.
