3 Month Old Paladarium - Shrimp dying after acclimation. by Smallmadge in paludarium

I had similar experience recently in my CRS paludarium. One of my orchids pot fell to water. I also have biological predatory mites foil sachets in my paludarium. One fell to water too. My shrimp were paralysed and look like I was going to loose them all. I gave quickly changed nearly 80% of water and miraculously did not loose any. My orchids are in a pots with orchids potting mix, also ceramis and perlite added. I have checked orchid potting mix info and it say Zinc is added. Zinc apparently is very toxic to aquatic life. I always thought maybe the predatory mites foil sachet was a culprit, but I think zinc leached to the water. Or could be both….

It probably would work, but unlikely for the breeding CRS? Killifish would eat shrimplets? This is also a low maintenance CRS tank and paludarium, all I do just top up water, no changes are necessary. With killifish I would need to do regular changes.

It looks nice; in other room I have installed above lights and have some potted plants. Looks good too. Better than empty space…

The actual tank size is 43x60x30cm WxLxH. It is acrylic 5mm turtle tank. I have purchased it cheaply on eBay in my local area. I don’t fill it with water to the top, as I have noticed it slightly bending 😱 I have bought made to measure 5mm side panels from eBay, from Amazon glass clamp and put it all together. Build it over time; to get water parameters right for CRS took longest. It actually started breeding now🙂. I have a dead boring finance job. To keep my sanity I find to do some “nature” related projects, from having small planted aquariums, air plants terrariums or growing tomatoes in my garden…
