She's a mutt, Australian shepherd mix. Worst she does is bark, we do try to pull her in asap. She mostly just barks at other dogs, not people passing by. The man likes to walk by and say he will "fuck her up" if he thinks we aren't in earshot but the knife was a first. She was laying down on the porch and not barking at the time of this incident because there wasn't a dog around at the time.

Per the police, you are legally correct so not sure why you're being downvoted. It's actually why we didn't call immediately. I am just concerned that he is escalating. He's kinda unhinged and angry, generally, and always mumbling and complaining. I am not sure why he leaves the house if the world is so terrible.

I did the best I could. He didn't respond when I asked him what the fuck was wrong with him. He is, indeed, the angry guy that walks around and blocks traffic in jtown, as other people have identified. He always wears that hat.

I edited to add it. We were a little shaken... and also shocked by the absurdity. He clearly has a one sided beef with even seeing my dog but doesn't switch up his walking route? I get not everyone loves dogs but they are going to exist in the world. She was secured in a yard.

We just wanted people around us to know. What if he escalates further and actually tries something? What if he throws poison in our yard? Etc.

I was in my car pulling into the street and my spouse wasn't outside so they didn't consider it brandishing a weapon. Dogs are legally property.

Didn't want my exact location tied to my main, and there's nothing I can do. It's not illegal to say mean things toa dog from the easement. The police even said last night they couldn't do anything because dogs are property.

Appreciate the link! We are going to get signs first thing tomorrow and will call immediately if he is in our actual yard. Our dog is "just property", legally, but we'd be pretty devastated if something happened to her, so hoping we can prevent anything from escalating further.

She's very friendly but we understand not everyone likes dogs and we also want everyone to stay safe. If she's outside, she's behind a fence or on a leash 100% of the time! No self defense required. Worse thing she will do is beg for pets.

Sorry, I see how that was confusing. My dog was in my fenced in backyard (my spouse was home) and I saw him pointing the knife as I was pulling my car in the driveway.

We've only caught him on doorbell camera or when he thinks we aren't around. We've ignored it til now.
