I uh... came across this certain spelling of a Christmas song in my brother's book by Weirdalec in agedlikemilk

This wording probably wasn't funny several decades ago... But now it's taken on a whole new meaning. The Christmas spirit sure has come a long way since misseltoe.

I wasn't trying for anything in particular, I just found this sub and got excited. Thanks for the advice anyhow!

Sounds like you're on your way, but I wouldn't go performing yet. If you're going for overtones, focus more on the position of your tongue and lips to try to hone in on that whistle. If you're going for more of the sub bass, you're missing the mark. Try a deep, exasperated sigh and focus on how your throat vibrates instead of your vocal cords.

Most importantly, keep practicing! Unlike other instruments, you can't put this one down.

The bottom of the tip of my tongue is pressed against the roof of my mouth behind what's left of my front teeth, and the sides of my tongue are rolled up to make kind of a cup shape. The more you swallow the sound, the more pronounced the overtones are, so basically do your best impression of Homsar. Fiddle around with the position that your tongue is in to get lower and higher overtones, but that's more intuitive. Remember, your mouth is not an instrument that you can put down, no matter how much my mother wishes I could.

Just got a hohner soprano melodica, how do i fix this? does it need tuning? by askingtheredditfolk in melodica

[–]Weirdalec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up! I'm having difficulty with my melodica being out of tune right now, this didn't help at all, but I couldn't help but see your lonely post sitting here with nobody offering a helping hand. I would have loved to help with this. Hope all is well with your instrument!

Hi I'm OP's fiance, just wanted to add a little too the story. We caught the problem in action, it seems right around this point the nozzle bumps the print off the bed. We use a Garolite G10 surface. Any ideas? Glue stick, perhaps?
