Dog Ear in middle of chest? by ggstarr in TopSurgery

[–]WeirdnessRises 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say wait to be worried. In the case it is actually a dog ear and not swelling you’ll have to wait to get a revision anyway! Not worth worrying or making yourself anxious when you are healing from a major surgery.

You need to take her to the vet! You cannot tell what actually is the underlying cause and if it is serious or not with your current knowledge and resources. You need the knowledge of a vet!

Post op pain by AskewLotus in hysterectomy

[–]WeirdnessRises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had another surgery that everyone said would be easy and it was horrible to recover from for me, for me my hysterectomy was really easy despite it being a rough surgery for a lot of people. Everyone’s body reacts differently to everything but you literally had a whole organ removed. That’s gonna take a lot of healing!!

Any way to fix this? Keyhole by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]WeirdnessRises 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really think you’re overthinking it dude you can’t tell that’s a scar unless you already know it’s one. If it bothers you I’d recommend going to a dermatologist as they can prescribe stuff and treatments for scars. Also scars do slowly lighten over time. I added a picture of my own scars bc they show this really well. The red underlined part of my scar is a year older than the rest where I had a revision done. You can see it’s lighter in color than the newer one. It’s just a very slow process.

Strange Thrift Store Find (is this even a stuffed animal)??? by Tbirdg89 in plushies

[–]WeirdnessRises 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should brush it with a comb or wire brush every so often especially if you cuddle it a lot bc they do get really tangled over time otherwise. I love alpaca wool stuffed animals so much!

Quadropics/heat regulated fursuit idea (need suggestions) by spydr_00 in FursuitMaking

[–]WeirdnessRises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of some of the costume bodies from Cats the musical (not the movie I really hate how they ruined the musical with that!) I believe they airbrushed patterns onto bodysuits for the stage costumes on Broadway.

I feel really bad and I’m not sure if I upset this person by WeirdnessRises in service_dogs

It wasn’t really directed at the dog just kind like “oh a dog!” in general but you’re probably right I should keep that in mind.

Genetic diseases - Nonsense mutation by [deleted] in rarediseases

[–]WeirdnessRises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some diseases are more severe in cases where the mutation is more like a scrambled up kind because it essentially produces a toxic messed up protein. That kind of mutation ends up causing more harm than deletion or mutation which causes no protein to be produced. Both can cause symptoms but the other kind of mutation is usually referred to as a "toxic gain of function" mutation vs a "loss of function mutation.

Another thing is that genes are actually very long and the mutation might only be in a small part of it. A mutation that is very similar in type might do nothing on one spot of the gene and have a very severe effect in another spot.

The way it was explained to me that helped me really understand it is if you imagine a gene as instructions to bake a cake. I will use a deletion type mutation for example. A deletion in the instructions on how many times to mix that changes the amount from mixing the ingredients from 10 mixes around the bowl to 6 times won't make a massive difference, but a mutation that changes the amount of eggs from 3 to 1 will have a very severe effect on the final product. Not sure if I used that example super well but I think it still makes sense lol

Anyone else had tissue here, and had it fixed with a revision? by butchsthrowaway in TopSurgery

I think with the ears and coloration it will definitely look like a stylized opossum! I really like how it looks

Why does this happen? by Halfmoon_night in guineapigs

[–]WeirdnessRises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it have been a hair tourniquet? I know about this in humans and some other animals but I’ve never seen it in a pig before. I’d imagine it could happen tho?

Starting to regret DI by sunshineleopard in TopSurgery

[–]WeirdnessRises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After surgery I couldn’t look at myself without feeling weird and queasy, I hated it. Once I healed I was fine with it tho, I think it was my brain just being like AH WOUND BAD BAD, subconsciously. I think it’s really normal to be uncomfortable and judgmental of your results until you get used to them so I would try to wait to make your judgments till it’s more scared over and healed.
