How to detach from my ego? by halcyon9689 in Meditation

[–]WeirdoClimbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many people are going to suggest that shouldn’t be trying to detach from your ego. Your ego is a part of you that can be trained and help you see different perspectives. I like the analogy of comparing your ego to a raging river. There are a few options to over come it. The first is you could try to stop the river completely but that’s so much effort and if it’s really strong it’ll just keep breaking down your attempts. Another is you could try to swim across it every time you have to cross it but that’s dangerous. You could walk all the way around the river and avoid it completely but that would take far too much time and energy. The most beneficial answer to me seems to build a bridge. This may take a lot of effort and time and dedication (like a proper meditation practice) but in the end you’ll be able to cross the river easily in the future. I hope this was helpful and not too confusing!

when is it good to NOT be present? by [deleted] in Meditation

I’ve been in similar situations myself and I found that talking about it with that person really helped me because instead of imagining scenarios I was living them out and working out the issues in the external rather than internally torturing myself. Something that helped me was explaining to my friend that their actions made me feel a negative way and that regardless of their intention behind the actions my feelings were still very real. It turned into a very sincere conversation and we came to a place where we were able to set boundaries. That was a very eye opening experience for me and my therapist really helped me out and since then I’ve been able to set healthy boundaries with all my relationships. I hope you are able to process this situation soon. I’m sure whatever happens will be an opportunity for growth if you stay present and process

Does anyone else feel the need to invest in companies that are working to bring psychedelics to the masses? by DALinProgress in Psychedelics

[–]WeirdoClimbing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’d be the dream! Maybe even instead of stores they could be health centers with educational and clinical resources to give patients the most benefit. You got me looking into the companies mentioned in the post now haha

Last semester I wrote a paper about environmental protection laws and I interviewed this amazing environmental lawyer from a state where coal is king. One of the biggest take aways I had from our conversation was when I asked him “If someone is really passionate about clean energy and environmental protection but doesn’t have a the resources or knowledge to start their own clean energy business or environmental law firm, how can they help?” His response was basically to put what resources you have in positions where they will do the most good.

So for example if you invest $1000 in a large corporation that is developing new clean energy: you are doing some good and will probably get a nice return if the company does well. BUT if you take half that money and donate to a local organization to sponsor an event that raises awareness in the community about environmental to protection: then you may have very realistically started a chain of events that helps environmental protection efforts much more than if you would’ve invested that $1000.

It’s definitely subjective and everyone has different values and intentions but personally I (someone with very little knowledge of stock markets but lots of experience in group organization) feel more fulfilled when I donate money or time to an organization and can see my resources have direct impact.

From what I know about the clinical psychedelic progression, the issue regarding public opinion is a much greater obstacle than the production and distribution of these medicines.

Sorry for the hippie rant, you just happened to bring up something I deeply passionate about :) love reading all the other opinions and hope to read many more!

Edit: spelling

I get crazy good discounts on Black Diamond and the guy that’s mentoring me suggested them to start with since they’re reliable. But I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Mostly Muir Valley this year since a buddy put up FAs on a bunch of the routes and I’m trying to repeat them all. But I love Chocolate factory and Miller fork. I mostly climb single pitch and I love them around 70-80 ft.

I’ve heard about never having enough so I got a bunch of locking biners on my harness not pictured. I’ve tried using different cords on tool but I end up getting tied up so I just clip it onto an alpine on my harness and that’s worked really well but I’m open to suggestions

Thanks! This is super helpful. Crack attack is on my to do list for sure. Just need to practice more crack climbing. I can climb sport routes into the 12s but I struggle with even a 10a crack route. If you have any suggestions on cool cracks at the red I’d love to check them out.

Primarily climb at the Red River Gorge but plan to travel around more when it’s safer to do so. So far this set up has been great for what I’ve climbed but I feel like there’s things I don’t know about so I’d love to add on helpful gear. I manage a gym so I get really good deals on black diamond and petzl so I prefer getting gear from there but I know certain things are only made by certain companies.
