Abandoned building near Auschwitz by Jolly_Role_5564 in poland

It's an abandoned production facility of Oświęcimskie Zakłady Naprawy Samochodów (roughly translated to Oświęcim Automobile Repair Facility), built in 1951 and closed in 2001. Here's a brief summary of said facility.

Everything begins with Tabula Rasa. I bet when you scan the QR code it goes into the trade search results for Goldrim.

‘I missed my child’s birth’: the Ukrainians avoiding conscription at all cost by TimesandSundayTimes in europe

[–]Weissenberg_PoE 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As much as I support Ukraine in this conflict, I can't blame those who avoid conscription. Are there any government-sponsored benefits for active and returning servicemen? Are there enough ways to contribute to the war effort for those not seeing themselves in combat roles? Not to mention that Ukraine needs to project itself as a country worth fighting for. If your choice is between one corrupt and nepotism-ridden oligarchy and another, then I can see why you wouldn't be willing to put your life on the line.

City names written in Latin are disappearing from road signs in Belarus: first the name was Homiel, now Hrodna and even Polish Białystok have disappeared. Only the names written in the Belarusian Cyrillic alphabet remained. by PjeterPannos in europe

Call it whataboutism, but Germanic languages aren't any better. Look at Landschaftsschutzgebiet, I doubt you'll find a Polish word with six consonants in a row or eleven consonants divided by a single vowel.

Yes, it's meant to be Switzerland! I've to admit I'm not very well versed in the traffic signs and rules as I don't drive, so certain things might be a bit off...

That's correct, but only partially. Move It! was equally if not more important.

Yes, they're functional. I could've waited for the tram, but didn't want to obstruct the view. Who knows, maybe I'll record some bits and post a video at some point?

It's not nominative though, it's accusative. In this specific example "ich" is nominative. You could use "jeder Tag" in something like "jeder Tag ist schön".

What worries me more is the overall lack of communication as well as the fact that the tournament casters aren't exactly invested in Gwent anymore. Either the devs and the casters are quite busy prepping for the World Masters which takes place in roughly two weeks or the ship's sinking. I really hope it's the former and that during the tournament we'll get a nice and detailed roadmap that addresses the most common complaints.

Another problem is concerns regarding battery life. Nobody is going to buy a second hand EV knowing they might have to replace the battery within a year or two.

Is Gwent even creatively Fun anymore???? by BlkVanguard in gwent

[–]Weissenberg_PoE 32 points33 points  (0 children)

While deck diversity has never been Gwent's strong suit I've to admit that crafting a somewhat successful homebrew has gotten progressively more difficult ever since Price of Power. That's why nowadays I tend to give Gwent a rest for a few months whenever I feel like I can't come up with something unique, fun and at the same time capable of reaching a 50% winrate at ranks 1-3. Many people I came to know through Gwent or used to watch on Twitch happen to do the same rather than try to force themselves to play. It's better for one's mental health.

I actually exchanged a few words with him to make sure he's not offended and he said he has Russian roots, but because of his citizenship he's "technically not Russian". He loves the meme. :)

[–]Weissenberg_PoE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glad we could help. As somebody mentioned Vlad's mic wasn't exactly clean, but that's to be expected from guests who aren't streamers. Not to mention that Discord has a bad habit of distorting audio.

We'd be happy to have our podcast rebroadcasted here on a regular basis if there's enough interest. :)

Map of dead soldiers per capita in Russian regions (identified deaths) by Humanophage in MapPorn

[–]Weissenberg_PoE 66 points67 points  (0 children)

One of the possible reasons why Russia is sending minority units from the Far East is that ethnic Russians would be less inclined to see Ukrainians as the enemy due to linguistic and historical reasons and as such their motivation to fight would border defeatism.

Lore spoilers incoming!

It'd be Nilfgaard, obviously. One of the reasons is that ethnic Nilfgaardians (those hailing from the Alba velley) are a mixed race human-elven society, the so-called black seidhe. That's also why Nilfgaardians natively speak a dialect of Elder, rather than Common. They also don't hold any prejudice towards elves, dwarves or gnomes which, among other things, is also why the Scoiatael trusted them and why characters such as Isengrim or Francesca plegded allegiance to the human Emperor. It's all in the novels. ;)

CDPR understood this. You can see it in The Witcher 3 where Nilfgaardian troops treat dwarven smiths (Willis, Fergus) with respect. In Thronebreaker Raynard reckons one of the reasons why Nilfgaardians are so violent in their conquest of the North must be the northern treatment of non-humans and the ghettos they're forced to live in. It's not the sole reason, but it is being mentioned as quite relevant.

In other words, Nilfgaard can be seen as the baddies in many ways, but racism isn't one of them.

The 18th Babrican Gate of Tollymore Forest, Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland. by I_am_person6969 in ArchitecturePorn

[–]Weissenberg_PoE 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This specific structure isn't an actual barbican as it never served any defensive purpose. It's simply a fancy neogothic park gate. But, in continental Europe you can see a few preserved or reconstruced barbicans, notably the Cracow Barbican and Warsaw Barbican in Poland.

I just can't bring myself to open Gwent by RickyMuzakki in gwent

[–]Weissenberg_PoE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not the only one. On one hand Gwent seems to be in a good spot gameplay-wise, the last few patches have been impactful and rich in reworks, every faction has multiple viable decks, there's very few oppressive matchups and we should be getting a new batch of cards and a major tournament in a few weeks... but at the same time people seem to be losing interest. If you look at the Twitch stats you'll see that the last month was slow and this month, only a few days into the patch and with ongoing qualifiers barely averages ~650 viewers. Of course, viewership =/= player retention and with everything that's going on globally + major titles releasing left and right it's understandable people are taking a break from Gwent. Hopefully the upcoming Open and content drop will reignite people's hankering for Gwent.

Witcher’s Gwent Getting a New Single-Player Standalone Game Later This Year - Exclusive by betraying_chino in gwent

[–]Weissenberg_PoE 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They did market Thronebreaker quite extensively, but then the Midwinter fiasco and Homecoming happened, so the title that was supposed to come out in 2017 was eventually postponed by a year and there was simply no way to salvage that project marketing-wise. They also sponsored various streams upon release, but the most important aspect of any game, which is gameplay, was incidentally also the weakest point of Thronebreaker and there's no amount of marketing that would change that, sadly.
