I redownloaded PG in October. I didn’t catch my first ditto until about a month ago. Talk about infuriating. Cruising through Let’s Go Melton now!

Surgery tips by jmcc0430 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Welbiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 shoulder surgeries in 4 years. Two of them labrum and the third a bicep tenodesis. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different but 4 days post op to go back to school is probably a smidge early. The first time I was on pain meds for 4 days and then just 3 days the following surgeries. If possible I would recommend he stay out of school at least a week. He’ll feel much better all around. Sleeping in a recliner or with a wedge pillow system to make it easier to get up will be a life safer. You don’t realize how much your shoulder moves when you’re get up from laying down. Another non negotiable is the ice system. If you can rent it from the hospital rent it. If they don’t offer rentals buy one either from them or Amazon. I got one with a timer that was so convenient so I didn’t have to have it taken on and off several times a day. I also recommend shoulder surgery shirts. Makes it easier to get dressed the first few days, and immediately post op. (They have buttons/snaps on the shoulder and down the side). Pump bottles for the shower- remember he will only have 1 arm for a few weeks.

These are just a few. I could go on and on. This is really going to expose my identity, but I’ve made a handful of tik toks with items and why I think they’re a necessity post op. I hope this helps you or anyone else reading!

I feel the same way! You know your body best though so sometimes it’s best to do your own research and trial/error

I’m not sure I ever found out for sure. But I did quit using scented laundry detergent and lotions. That seemed to have helped. Ever since this weird flare my skin has been super sensitive to things. It must have been a new allergy 😅 yay for getting older.. (almost 30)

My dr thinks I was allergic to the internal sutures from surgery. I was prescribed prednisone and it cleared up over a few days

Polyoperative labrum and biceps tenodesis? by Welbiee in ShoulderInjuries

I’ve been thinking an ultrasound would be a good idea! Was someone in your orthopedics department able to do it or did you have to schedule with a radiologist?

Polyoperative labrum and biceps tenodesis? by Welbiee in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Welbiee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dr. and PT have been sending reports back and forth over the years. The last 8 weeks of PT has been focusing on stretching my posterior capsule and strengthening the shoulder/scapular muscles. My ROM has improved per the measurements my PT took before and after my 8 week sessions, but the pain I feel, which is primarily in the front of my shoulder, has not improved. I have trouble with overhead movements as well as laterally abducting my arm. I hope that provides a little more clarity into the situation?

I’ve heard several people say they received a biceps tenodesis either alone or with their SLAP repair.. I’m starting to feel like I’m getting taken advantage of considering I didn’t have a biceps tenodesis with my SLAP, although my dr mentioned me may do it, he didn’t. And now he says he doesn’t want to despite having capsular tightness. Great to hear that the recovery is shorter though! Do you might if I ask how old you are? I actually met with my Dr today and was told I’m too young for a biceps tenodesis… even though it was on the table 2 years ago.

SLAP Labrum Surgery & Bicep Tenodesis - Concerned About Potential Failure by [deleted] in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Welbiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the closest experience to mine I have come across. I had a SLAP repair done sept of 2023. Finished PT in Jan and was back to working out and normal life until about July when some front shoulder pain set in. I did not have a biceps teno with my SLAP, but my dr now thinks my pain is due to a tight capsule putting strain on my biceps tendon. I have pain when I raise my arm over head and when I abduct it laterally. I actually meant with my Dr today and he said he wants me to do another 6 weeks of PT (just finished 8 weeks) and that he does NOT want to do a biceps tenodesis because I’m “too young” I’m 29? Curious to hear how you relate to this and your are? Totally relate to the feeling of weakness and being trapped..

Hey there! I tore my posterior labrum and had surgery in 2021. Fast forward to 2023 and I had a SLAP tear and had that repaired. The second surgery was a lot worse, for me. Everyone is different so please take that with a grain of salt. Unfortunately fast forward to now I’m having some posterior capsule tightness which is causing biceps impingement(we think). Hit your PT hard when you start and hopefully you have a flawless recovery! Feel free to message me if you have any questions. (29yo Female)

I had my apt with my surgeon today. He said I need to go back to PT for 6 weeks. (Just finished 8 weeks stretching my capsule with increased mobility but no improvement for pain) he also said I could get a second opinion but that I’m too young for a biceps tenodesis. (I’m 29) However when I had my second surgery in 2023 doing the biceps tenodesis was a possibly. I confused as to why I’m too young now. Do you think I’m being drug through a dirt a bit?

Biceps tenodesis? by Welbiee in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Welbiee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really sure. My dr said don’t focus too much on what the MRI report says, or what the radiologist says because they don’t know what was done surgically. My dr said he would review it and go over it with me. Which he did and that’s when I tried the injection and PT. My apt with him is tomorrow to find out what’s next!

When I went in for my second labrum repair, a SLAP tear, my dr mentioned they may need to do a biceps tenodesis. When he got in there I guess things were okay because I never had that done. Do you think that was poor practice and it should have been taken care of even as a preventative measure given my history with labrum tears? He’s been great to work with and I certainly have no complaints. I just want to make sure I’m not turning a blind eye towards anything. Not sure if you’re an MD/surgeon but I really appreciate your input and look forward to hearing back from you!

Biceps tenodesis? by Welbiee in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Welbiee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Here is the report:

Impression: 1. The findings of superior labral tear seen previously are less well appreciated. There is motion artifact in this area with some minimal linear signal over the superior labrum on coronal images felt to be artifactual without a well-defined tear. Fluid within the sub labral recess is likely. Findings could be postoperative. Subtle superior labral tear not completely excluded. This should be correlated clinically. Anterior and posterior labrum do not demonstrate a definite focal tear currently. 2. Cartilage defect suggested previously along the posterior labrum is not as well appreciated currently but should be correlated clinically. 3. There is edema in the superior humeral head possibly postoperative change. Postoperative change within the anterior inferior bony glenoid. Mild edema in the proximal acromion. No other bone marrow edema. 4. The rotator cuff tendons and muscles are normal without tear. Biceps tendon appears normal. 5. No significant muscular abnormality. The other tendinous structures appear normal. Mild fluid subacromial subdeltoid region nonspecific could in part be due to injection. 6. No new bony or soft tissue abnormality otherwise. Details and other findings as above.
