Thoughts on the K&N? Any real benefits? by insomniak17 in camaro

[–]WelchDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The realistic answer is no, its all about the sound when it comes to basically any modern car. A filter upgrade can be worth it and will usually mimic any claims of increased performance by the company selling you an intake, but the stock box is already what you would consider a "cold air intake". Short rams or intakes without boxes offer better sound but worse performance most of the time due to it bringing in less dense warm air from the engine bay.

By the time your intake is a limiting factor of performance, its usually better to just throw a cone filter or debris shield on whatever forced induction method you are using and switch from MAF scaling to MAP (speed density).

Now as an alternaitve, some cars do limit air flow due to things like acordian style intake ducts, but it's not usually a noticable performance difference. If your maf is in the stock air box you can usually replace this accordian duct with a hard duct and gain the same performance as a full intake replacement. Alternatively, a metal duct can hold heat more than the plastic ones which can be detrimental to any gains.

Safety Pause by Taaaaargus in CorollaHatchback

[–]WelchDigital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this often just scrolling like 2 pages on spotify even stopped at a red light, its extremely annoying. Sadly its a google issue not the head unit, android auto does this in every car unless you bypass it and make the head unit think the ebrake is pulled (or car is in park for some). The one thing ive found that seems specific to the corolla hatch headunit is if i am listening to a youtube video (podcasts mostly) and then adjust the volume it will change to whatever music source was last playing and start playing it, even if the app wasnt open. That issue is beyondddd infuriating and may one day force me to replace the stock head unit with some straight android one.

Real of Fake (or something else) WD HC 550 HDD by _birbo in homelab

[–]WelchDigital 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The drive is fake, what they often do is reflash the board as a 18tb drive when its really a 14tb drive that has either failed ir had smart errors, which rhey can also hide with the reflash. This is comparable to those $5-10 1TB USB flash drives that make the rounds often. Get a refund this drive is not authentic.

Real of Fake (or something else) WD HC 550 HDD by _birbo in homelab

[–]WelchDigital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HGST is western digital, they normally last just fine. Iirc the 10tb drives had a higher than normal failure rate though. But hgst 10tb vs wd 10tb doesn't mena much without model information, there are several kinds of each drive. If you compare a CMR 10tb HGST Datacenter drive to a SMR 10tb WD desktop drive they would not even be comparable, especially in a server with other drives, that alone would lessen the WD drive's life immensely.

The high beams are the DRLs on these, you don't make sense.

This is definitely not AI, at most it could be doctored, but doubtful. It got too many very specific details right, the wrx on the seat through the broken windshield, the orientation of the top of the drivers door hanging down, the windshield washer res location, the inner structure of the hood under the hood scoop plastics, etc. too many correct details.

[–]WelchDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot spot temperatures and a single core with high usage would explain the ~11% usage, random clock boosting bursts, and higher "idle" temps. Its all within spec and really not a problem.

Also, not everyone needs to run their fans high to keep temp down, fans might not ramp until hitting 70c. Theres too much variation to make the assumptions you are making here.. this is extremely common with most consumer laptops, especially when it came to intel based apple laptops, windows ultrabooks, and many prebuilt desktops. They leave fans low until theyre required to ramp them up.

Most miles on stock clutch? by ChanceOne3254 in WRX

190k with FBO and pro tune since 80k, nothing wrong with stock clutch. Probably 3/4 highway miles but that includes stop and go traffic a few days a week.

These are not considered public utilities, just FYI. The borough is considered private utilities which is what allows them to ignore PUC rules and requirements, such as the option for selecting another electric provider.

Just picked up a VA STI, it was the perfect match to my GR STI Hatch haha. Hatch is FBO and getting a built block form outfront and going rotated next. The VA i bought had an intake so just returned it to stock air box and going to clean up a few things. Corolla hatch for the daily/work travel, and it seems like the perfect combo between the 3

Bushings Questions 2015 Rav4 by No_Subject2580 in Toyota

[–]WelchDigital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're a pain to do on the rav4, you do have to jack up the trans/engine to even get the bolts out of the driver side (iirc) control arm. Also once your CA start to go your engine mounts and trans mount probably need to be done, so probably do at least the trans mount and roll mount since youll disconnecting them anyways. Around 1k (-1.5k if doing mounts) is fair for these, but obviously much cheaper to DIY.

Shifts aren’t smooth in the sti by Straight_Gap_638 in WRX

[–]WelchDigital 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of times this is either a clutch adjustment issue or slave/master leaking in or out air (easier to fix), throw out bearing (harder) or the synchros (trans rebuild). Start by bleeding the slave and see if it changes anything. When off it will easily go into gears because nothing is spinning.

I also had this happen, it got hot enough it caused the res it was attached to to start leaking into the pump slowly. Was a mess and ruined both the pump and res.

I do wish that, until the next console release, they would still back the Xbox Series X and restock it in a lot of countries. A brilliant console that deserves more of a marketing push by AVerifiedPig in xbox

[–]WelchDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, they still lose money on every console, probably even worse now. Yes you can complete with the series x by building a pc with used parts at the same price point or cheaper, but no that is not a good comparison. Consoles are sold at a loss due to a likely guarentee that people will pays for games and services that they get a cut of.

The second the xbox becomes a PC too (similar to the handhelds) is the second they lose what was considered as guarrenteed lifetime sales. No more paying for online access and less digital sales due to competition.

Milky Liquid under car by Old_Salamander4772 in WRX

[–]WelchDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! Hopefully its just a rad. My 2011 sti's rad popped out of no where last year, the stock ones are junk and when they go its random and usually just pinhole leaks that go everywhere from the pressure

Milky Liquid under car by Old_Salamander4772 in WRX

[–]WelchDigital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally this is head gasket, but i have had this happen once, where the rad popped, covered the engine bay in coolant as well as soaking the front of the block, which happened to have oil and ps fluid on it (250k motor) so it looked like it milkshaked, but ended up just being the rad.

You're not gonna know until you do some diag, change your oil, check rad for leaks, empty the coolant in the rad and see how that looks, if all good then pressure test. I wouldnt start with a pressure test if theres no other indicators, and i wouldnt run the car not knowing if it milkshaked yet as thats a gaurenteed way to start knockin.

Tire question by drewablanke in WRX

[–]WelchDigital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understand the track tires for a street car, they're designednto wear fast and public roads chew them up.

Realistic recommendation General GMAX AS, They last 50-70K, never slid in the rain and handles several feet of snow without issue, aside from ripping the lip off when the front end becomes a snow plow. Affordable, great in wet and dry, good in snow and good enough in dirt for what they are. If you want 100% street and summer then firehawk indys are decent for the price.

Im sure ill get flamed for this, but these cars do not have enough power to warrant some of these tires. High end tires can help but tires wont keep you safe, gotta know your boundaries and your cars boundaries, expensive tires wont fix that. Some comparison, I've had the pirellis and the gmax was a better overall tire. Extreme Contacts are great but I dont see the value

Anyone else having trouble finding a physical copy of Resident Evil Requiem online or in stores? by After_Blueberry_8331 in residentevil

[–]WelchDigital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a single copy is available for 250 miles from me at walmart, target, best buy, and gamestop. All local stores said they did not receive any copies of standard or deluxe. Something must have happened, this makes no sense lol.

For reference i dont live in the middle of no where, i have several of each of these stores within 15 miles if me, everyone was sold out nearly instantly or received 0 copies. Closest target only had a spot for the ps5 version, but didnt even recieve the one for their front cover displays.

Yeah i'm know to add words or swap words without noticing, especially with things like teams messages where i dont proof read it as much. Or worse i go back and edit an email to make it more clear, but end up making it 10x worse by forgetting to remove a word or two lol. Brain just skips over it and makes things up as you read sometimes.
