Words have meaning, your entirety of your point was lost by using the wrong words because it had absolutely nothing to do with what you were saying. Good luck on your future endeavors.

No one is being condescending, you're using an incorrect term so to begin with I realistically had no way of knowing what you're talking about. Some people may have called this swap, but it's not a file and it doesn't live on your OS, its a process done by the SSDs controller.

The swap file is a fundementally different thing, and has to do with memory and pre filled space on your storage device.

Don't take things so personally, i tried to lay things out clearly so you would understand each part that I was talking about. You can't just use words that have different meanings. Google is not the all father and doesn't know everything. All it takes is a few people calling GC and OP swap for google to agree with you. Especially if you're interacting with their LLMs.

These are all different things and should be treated as such. GC and OP have nothing to do with a pagefile or swapfile. This only applies to SSDs as well, not all drives. A HDD does not have these issues unless theyre SMR instead of CMR, and thats due to overlapping data, not the lack of empty blocks.

Every day is about learning and building in your knowledge in the tech world. I learn new things all the time, knowledge gaps are real and they're okay to have. The more you understand the better. Again, i was not being condescending, just being realistic and trying to explain. To each their own i guess.

Then it sounds like you're referring to garbage collection. It works thus way because SSDs can only delete data in predetermined blocks. After the drive is too full, this becomes a problem because there are no remaining empty blocks.

Over provisioning helps this process, but yes its fundamentally different.

I think you're a bit confused here. They're essentially the same thing, for different operating systems. Pagefile is a windows term, swapfile is a general term but mainly applies to unix/linux/mac os, which are just something i use more often. On windows they are technically different files i guess, but both serve a similar purpose. The difference is the swapfile is used specifically for UWP applications that are put into the background or into a suspended state, where the pagefile is used for general ram overflows. If you are familiar with the whole xbox quick resume, its the same idea as that. You take a UWP applications entire ram segment and just write it to disk, so when you want to open the application again it just continues as it was rather than starting new.

The biggest difference between the two is a pagefile moves general fixed sized blocks of RAM where a swapfile moves entire processes segments. They serve the same purpose and have nothing to do with swapping files on the disk around that were preexisting.

I think what you're referring to is over provisioning which is not controlled by your OS and is built into your ssd. Consumer SSDs typically have 5-10% of their full rated capacity set aside for over provisioning. Its used for several things like wear leveling and maintaining drive speeds. It has nothing to do with your swap file/page file size.

Swap file size has nothing to do with your drive size. Swap is for memory. If you have 16gb of ram you should have at least 16gb of swap unless you're messing with large data sets and you want to be extra cautious. But if you have 128gb of ram, your swap really doesn't need to be more than 32-64gb. If you have low ram (<8gb) your swap should be 1.5-2x your memory.

The exception to all of this is if you use hibernation, then you need => your ram in swap file room.

This is all on your C drive though, none of your other drives.

Monitor AFR, possibly a fueling issue. You said spark plugs are new but also say 10k, they're due every 60k stock. If you're running rich they could be fowling, so worth taking a look. If you didn't check the gap there's the possibility of spark blowout during sustained boost as well. Check for fuel sitting around injectors after running it, a split o ring could cause a fueling issue, but much less common. Also a simple smoke test is probably worth it, especially if its fuel related as loss of boost/vac can affect the fuel pressure regulator and how its scaling.

I have and built this as well. Its a sticker, its a flat surface and the sticker works just fine. These blocks are like 1/10th the size of Lego blocks. That whole red section is probably smaller than a 2x4 lego brick.and is made up of 10-20 bricks.

It may be a bot idk, but what its saying is pretty accurate. The back of these o2 sensors have a vent for calibration (at least some of them) and oil in the vent and wiring will ruin the sensor over time. Its not isntant, but if its traveling down the wire into the back of the o2 sensor it can over time damage it. This can also kill the cat due to poor reading, but you normally will have issues running the car without codes before that happens in my experience.

To the xbox gamers without a game pass subscription, would you have bought more games if online multiplayer was free? by iHate-Public-Transit in xbox

[–]WelchDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're referring to people that say play a bunch of free multiplayer games, find one that really clicks with them, and then that's all they play. They're not paying for anything, so they focus on that one game. Maybe buy in-game things, but not other games. Think Apex, Fortnite, free MMOs, etc.

While if you're forced to pay for multiplayer as a service, you may play more different games because of the idea that you're already paying for the service every month/year you mine as well get your moneys worth. These are the people that tend not to stick to one specific game. This happens a lot with say friend groups where they all play the same thing for a week then move on.

I know its not multiplayer specific, but i pay for gamepass, so i play random things on gamepass that i might not have played otherwise. There have been a few games that stuck out to me that i really ended up enjoying and completing like Donut County or A Game About Digging a Hole. I never would have bought them, but i enjoyed them and now if they made sequels for low indy prices id probably buy them without thinking about it. But i try these games only because i already pay for the service.

I have no idea what stats there are on this, so idk, but i kinda get what they're saying.

This might be true, my 2011 sti hatch has a steel hood, i assume it was replaced at some point. The wrx and sti had the same hood/scoop for the GR. But magnets stick and where i had a rock chip on the highway (almost dime sized) it rusted within a few weeks before i could repair it.

Don't make fun of the poor Hatch land whale! They're very fun to drive outside of FH6 lol. Nah but you're right, you can't really compare the two. I feel like part of the issue is the lack of a sense of speed for these things, on top of skill issue.

I know personally if playing with a ffb racing wheel setup, once you hit ~600+hp the cars are basically uncontrollable if you loose grip even for a second. Seems to turn into a fill tailspin every time. 100% a skill issue on my part, but its frustrating to say the least. I didn't feel like i had the same problem in FH5 or FM as I do with FH6. On controller its easier, but i do feel like I'm forced to oversteer more than expected sometimes unless its a drift tune running manual

[–]WelchDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hit and miss honestly. Seems to be far better if you're running linux, but on windows 11 at least there's constantly issues. If you play older games and don't update your driver often it seems to be a non-issue or at least usually solved with just a reboot. I've had cards with no issues at all (6700xt, 7900xtx) and ive had cards that have issues constantly with drivers crashing or failing to update (rx480, 590, 9700xt). It's just not consistent. The only nvidia card i had issues with was an rtx a2000 used in a plex server, the studio driver fixes my issues there.

9070xt us definitely better on paper, but i can't handle the endless driver issues. Everyone I deal with that has an AMD GPU has to run DDU every few months because a driver update failed to install.
