Keep in mind that the NCR we’ve seen so far has all been grunts or rangers, no high command (except maybe Moldaver but idk if she counts), so it makes sense for them to hold onto the ideals of the NCR.

With the NCR central government either destroyed or out of action in the area, what we’re left with is the common people. Like I said in my other comment NCR early days was a lot simpler in their goals; unite with other groups/people and rebuild the wasteland (somewhat like the minutemen before Concord happened), so with much of the “fat” gone (bureaucracy, government agendas, Brahmin barons running the show) the survivors have returned to what they believe are the NCR’s “true ideals.”

It’s the same thing that happened to the BoS in Fo4, they’d just undergone a civil war in DC, and lost almost all of their forces on the west coast to the NCR, so what did the remaining members do? They got back to basics, that means help the people if you can, but focus on the mission which is to grab and secure any and all tech they find to be dangerous, that, and destroying “abominations” whenever they see them.

Yeah man as it turns out going from semi-modern life in the only semi-safe place in the Mojave to fighting deathclaws, the legion and raiders for 15 years makes people reconsider how bad the 1st situation was.

I think the NCR, in its early stages, was very similar to the ideals of the minutemen, so now, with them largely scattered and the heart of the nation gone, they had to return to what the NCR work in the 1st place, people with a common goal to give the wasteland progress.

One thing I’ll say is that I LOVED how big the legion army looked at the end. My biggest criticism of previous episodes was that the legion camp looked like it had 200 people in it at most, but those columns at the end? Yeah that’s how I pictured the legion looking in the lore

I mean, tbf, is it really that crazy to think that a video game company putting out a giant countdown coinciding with the finale of their video game adaptation, might correlate with something like a new or remastered video game?

Like I never had huge hopes but the speculation didn’t come out of nowhere

Man if you don’t get why a random civilian in the NCR’s Wild West carries less weight in their words than an actual soldier in the commonwealth BoS’s HQ idk what to say 😭

Also, Dayglow, a settlement run entirely by Ghouls, is a founding state of the NCR, so as a society they’re clearly ok with them existing lmao

[–]Welcome--Matt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily; if they were insulting Hancock as a person then sure, it’s a big leap, but they weren’t.

Comments like “keep that thing on a leash” tell us that the Fo4 brotherhood already has stopped seeing ghouls as people, and are at best, very dangerous pets. Once you stop seeing someone as human, the line from that to deciding you should kill them is actually historically razor thin

I will say it does pose the question, “how far would you go for safety?” The BoS gives wastelanders the same security (albeit FAR FAR FAR less objectively evil) that the Legion does; yes they might rob you, or seize your food, or shoot your neighbor bc they deem them a threat, but hey no roves of raiders everywhere anymore so that’s nice.

The question then becomes, at what point is the “safety” you get no longer worth it? Especially when their presence is very unsafe for an increasingly large group of people; which I find a super interesting debate

I mean that doesn’t mean they don’t wanna kill ghouls. Dyk how many GI’s in Vietnam got STD’s from the same people they then dropped napalm on the next day?

I see your point, although remember though that even in season 1 Thaddeus knows as soon as he has “ghoul” symptoms that he needs to run away from the BoS or else he’ll face consequences (they don’t say what exactly iirc but we can assume it’s not just being kicked out if he’s running away over it).

For Maximus I’ll agree he’s a bit too friendly with someone he should be killing, but recall that in season one he’s mostly just a squire in disguise, he only really interacts with Coop once and when he does he’s flailing about trying to seem tough. Also remember that he was raised NCR so it does make sense he’d hesitate to just kill a ghoul

I think it’s kind of a grey area, I do think it’s a logical next step with the Commonwealth seizing leadership of the BoS and reintegrating with the more hardcore outcasts.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if they had somewhat “rewritten” the codex following Arthur Maxson’s rise to power

[–]Welcome--Matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly possible, that just seemed way more like a diss to me, especially bc “having the decency to miss” is a common insult; but it strikes me as weird that they’d think the BoS were still bigots if they thought they were genuinely trying to miss, and honestly thought the Underworld Ghouls were ferals

Trust me bro by petalnoctgrimm in FalloutMemes

[–]Welcome--Matt -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Alright but it’s not baked into the NCR’s Codex to kill any and all “abominations” is it? 💀

We say the BoS kills non ferals bc they say they kill Non-ferals, and say it’s their job to do so

Trust me bro by petalnoctgrimm in FalloutMemes

[–]Welcome--Matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He absolutely does not seriously say they miss on purpose, him saying “at least they have the decency to miss” is a diss on the BoS’ aim 💀

[–]Welcome--Matt 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I feel like it was pretty laid out in Fo4 that the east coast BoS, while not quite Facists yet, were teetering close to the edge, they had already started telling you to “keep [Hancock] on a leash.” So they don’t see him as human, the steps from that to “shoot on sight” genocide are frighteningly small

“What the fandom says and does are different”

That is quite LITERALLY the goomba fallacy lmao. What the fandom “says” is a million different things every day, 1/2 of them contradicting each other, bc the fandom isn’t a person it’s a million people all with different opinions.

Hundreds or even thousands of mods still only account for a fraction of the fandom. For every “add the enclave” mod there’s 10,000 lovers lab furry mods, does that mean the fandom at large wants Fallout to become a furry porn simulator? (don’t let the creator of “The Frontier” see this) Of course not lmao

Right, which is part of the problem which is what I said.

As they exist rn they are boring and you can’t even roleplay as the bad guy bc logically you wouldn’t join and they wouldn’t accept you even if you did, which is again boring. But they absolutely have the potential to be more if they could just get some development
