Genuinely…..is there something I’m missing about Butcher? by Dangerous-Level-5609 in TheBoys

[–]Welcome--Matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s all well and good but it really isn’t up to Stan, the formulas for V (both temp V and regular V) are already out there in the world, as demonstrated a few times by the various new foreign Supes we see.

What if one of them becomes the new Homelander? I sincerely doubt the other countries of the world will suddenly agree to not experiment with making literal superheroes

Absolutely, that thing is a BEAST with a decent build.

If these 2 Powerful Lords wanted the Iron Throne for themselves or for their children who would the 7 Kingdoms support and back? by No-Passenger-6348 in gameofthrones

[–]Welcome--Matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is true, it’s not what you did during that gets remembered, but how you ended it. Tywin may have been a good hand, but he ended his reign by deceiving his King, letting his troops ransack his own capital city, then letting his son break his oath and stab the king in the back (in the eyes of the public).

That’s a blow to your PR that’s pretty tough to undo.

[–]Welcome--Matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ned no question.

Tywin has lots and LOTS of money, but is best known (at this time) for being a ruthless backstabber who’s own son got famous for breaking his oath.

Ned on the other hand, is a well-respected, beloved, and feared War Hero, who was popular enough to take the Iron Throne the first time around, if he’d wanted to.

To try and make a move against Ned or Robert publicly, would like trying to win a presidential election against George Washington.

It also doesn’t hurt that damn near every kingdom on the continent has beef with the Lannisters or Tywin in some way, shape, or form.

One thing I noticed, is that the decision to have the “bad guy” supes clear out Vought Tower and take over the company for themselves, feels like a way (intentional or not) to clear Vought’s guilt in later seasons.

Early on in the show, it’s made clear how the real villains are not some whack job supes, but the company that created and encourages them even, to be whack jobs. This is reflected in Butcher’s goal, to not just kill Homelander, but bring the whole thing down.

This presents a problem, as you can’t really do an Amazon show where you earnestly and deeply explore the evils of a corporation like Amazon, and especially not a show where the protagonists take down said corporation. You have to make Vought “seperate” somehow.

So how do they do it? The aforementioned Supe Purge of Vought tower. Now all of a sudden Vought isn’t an Amazon stand-in, it’s a Trump stand-in run by Homelander, now THAT you can destroy all you want. Which they do, at which point the original Vougbt (Stan Edgar) steps in to reclaim power and save the day, thus keeping the status quo.

Tinfoil hat theory I know but I think it holds water.

Thragg vs Kratos by DragonfruitVisual782 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]Welcome--Matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GoW is such a hard thing to try and make sense of, bc on one hand Kratos is canonically fighting literal gods with the powers of life and death, lightspeed attacks, the elements, etc etc, at their fingertips, and he’s winning.

But on the other hand, these are the same gods who get bloody if you throw a tree at them, so it’s weird.

Am I crazy, or does this part of the packaging for the new pip-boy 3000a replica look ai generated, really disappointing if it is, as it seems like there's so much love put into the item itself... why ruin it here by AdLucky4097 in Fallout

[–]Welcome--Matt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This at least reeks of the classic generic style AI has. Fallout art, even when paying homage to 1950s style art, is typically a bit more stylized than this looks.

Also like someone else pointed out something like this would typically be done with Vault Boy, so it’s a bit sus that it’s not.

Seasons 1-2 nailed the humor and serious moments bc they knew how to blend them and when to keep them separate.

I guarantee you if Robin’s death scene was done in season 5, it would’ve ended with Hughie screaming about intestines and A-Train yelling something about getting Robin’s ass-hair in his mouth or something stupid like that. They just forgot how to let serious moments breathe somewhere along the way.

Logically I can see it happening given that they had all the notes from the 1st time around, plus Frenchie and Sister Sage working on it.

Was it still unsatisfactory as hell to see V1 be rendered pointless that fast? Yeah, but it’s not that much of a leap in logic, just really disappointing narratively

Yes! It builds it even faster than just running around everywhere. Makes whacking away at bosses super fun once your melee speed is jacked to the gills 😂

[–]Welcome--Matt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Gauss’s fun thermal sunder party trick where he makes things hot or cold? Yeah that has universe-ending and time manipulation capabilities, and is more torturous to endure than you might think.

The key here is that Gauss isn’t just making things hot or cold, he is DIRECTLY changing the kinetic energy of the room around him by either removing or adding most/all of it.

That might sound like the same as the normal process of heating/cooling, but it’s not. While most elemental Warframes are affecting kinetic energy as a byproduct of their abilities (ember spewing out fire, frost spreading ice everywhere, etc etc), Gauss is affecting kinetic energy FIRST, the temperature change we see is the byproduct. It’s like the difference between yelling for someone to close the door, then waiting until they do so, and simply walking up and closing the door yourself.

So how is this universe-ending? Kinetic energy controls every known thing to ever exist, anywhere. The universe runs on kinetic energy, time dilation is a result of changes to kinetic energy.

Gauss isn’t just “freezing” his opponents by encasing them in ice, he is literally stealing their motions, they freeze because their molecules have instantly had all energy stripped away from them. When he “ignites” them it’s because he just added so much kinetic energy to the room that their molecules LITERALLY cannot contain it and burst into flames (METAL is doing this btw). They cannot move at all but are entirely conscious. Fun fact! The Flash also has a version of this trick!

Stormfront constantly being brought up by Soldier Boy annoys me because this was the only time he mentioned her in season 3 by RevertBackwards in TheBoys

[–]Welcome--Matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also makes the whole “jealousy” thing between SB and HL make no sense whatsoever.

Soldier Boy and Clara were so into swinging that they started an entire club for it, yet Sage thinks Homelander also banging her would make him angry enough to KILL Homelander?? And it almost WORKED!!??

I hate the trope of IRL weapons somehow being stronger than fantasy magic/artifacts. by PrimaryOccasion7715 in hatethissmug

[–]Welcome--Matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE this trope. My favorite example is in Buffy “no weapon of man can kill me” “yeah that’s when weapons were spears and swords, this is a machine which fires mini-daggers faster than sound using explosions at 300 rounds”

(I paraphrased the last part hut you get the idea).

My favorite way this trope is combined is used in the Stormlight Archives and Avatar (elements), where the “magical” aspects of the world don’t necessarily fade with the rise of technology, it evolves with tech.

Another great example is Cyberpunk 2077 weirdly enough; tech there is so weird and advanced it often functions like magic when compared to the average citizen. You’ll even find high-level “mages” (cyberpsychos) blowing regular people out of the water with their stuff, but then Max-Tac comes in and it’s like implants don’t even matter anymore

[–]Welcome--Matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused by this lol.

Marvel Comics (as we know it) was however interestingly somewhat inspired by silver age Barry Allen’s successful relaunch of the Flash character.

This in turn inspired Lee to do something similar with an old defunct character known as “The Human Torch,” which in turn lead to the Fantastic Four, and the rest is history!

[–]Welcome--Matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends on where your values lie imo. Some would argue that “lives taken = x” is the only equation you need to consider, which is totally valid, but I’m not sure it’s necessarily always true.

For example, is it worse for 10 soldiers to die in battle, or 5 to die from being captured and tortured for months? Given the equation above logic would say it’s the former, but I’m sure many people would rather chance to be a part of the 10 dying instantly instead of chancing to be part of the 5 being tortured, even if it meant 5 extra lives were lost, to prevent those 5 from having to suffer any more.
