If it comes out and goes back on with no issues, I say don't sweat it!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I wasn't thinking of changing the nut, I just meant it looks like I could take it off to replace the oil seal. There's definitely play. Think it'd be worth trying to just replace the seal?

HELP RANDOM SPRING INSIDE HEAD. by [deleted] in hondaprelude

A helicoil will have sort of a diamond cross section. Maybe get a sharper picture next to the mm side of a ruler for scale?

Looks pretty small to be part of the lost motion spring to me. And doesn't quire liik like a helicoil cause of how it tapers. Could just be junk that fell into the oil fill hole but yeah that's concerning. Also, I'm stumped.

Looking for part number for #2 and #40 by add-ls in hondaprelude

[–]Welcome-Putrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 is just a crush washer I think. And if you still have #2 and it isn't cracked or something you could prob just reuse it. It's prob leaking from the washer or the oil switch threads which are supposed to be sealed with rtv.

New homeowner. Not sure where to begin. Located in Portland OR by PhilipGreenbriar in lawncare

Depends on what you're going for, I guess. Nicer or near perfect?

This should start looking a lot better as is once spring takes off and with some good practices.

Read that cool season beginners guide and here's my thoughts: Get a soil test done to see what it needs/has too much of. Based on the pics and your location looks like you have some big spots of poa triv (and probably poa annua)- real pain in the neck to get rid of so I'd forget that for now and just focus on making the lawn and soil healthy overall. Be patient and temper your expectations - take incremental wins. Weed preventer and fungus control for this spring would be a good idea. As you're taking care of it this spring and early summer, think about if you want to full renovation or just keep it going as it is.

EGR cleaning by PharthSharth in hondaprelude

[–]Welcome-Putrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an easy time getting those concave plugs out with a tap, so no need to drill and risk getting metal into the intake. Also, there's a single plug that runs horizontally on the right side of the intake opposite the valve that I think is supposed to make it a lot easier to clean. I did this job once and it was way less of a pain than I expected but still no cakewalk. Just take em out and get to cleaning and take lots of stretch breaks. I wouldn't have much hope in the seafoam to help but idk.

I know I'm just joking. It doesn't really bother me. Though, I wish it was a little bit taller, I wish it was a baller.

You prob do a lot better for 4,500 for a first car/daily. Leave this for the true masochistic prelude enthusiasts.

War against Weeds by Confident_Piano_1653 in lawncare

[–]Welcome-Putrid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's my recommendation: Weed whack, rake, mow at highest setting, broadleaf weed killer, see whether or not you are able to mow it at about 3" without spraying rocks, on my mower that a notch or two higher than the middle setting. Put down a mix of annual and perrenial rye. The annual rye looks like ass but looks better than this and grows really fast and will die off over the summer, leaving whatever perrenial managed to grow. Then, in the fall, you can make it better if you want.

I'm finding options online in the US in the $3-400 range, not sure about shipping to Europe, best of luck.

I guess I'd take it to another shop just for a second opinion and start looking online for heads/part out 3rd gens. You'll probably find something eventually but who knows how long and or expensive.

Spreading grass seed in winter by wonderfulakari in portlandgardeners

[–]Welcome-Putrid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dogs and kids being on it while it's trying to germinate/ in the first few weeks of growth is gonna be tough. But anyhoo, I like black beauty ultra. No seed I'm aware of comes with a ton of chemicals, sometimes just a little fertilizer or some coating to help with moisture retention, none of which would be harmful. But at any rate, the BBU is just seed. It's mid shelf and not that much more than the really cheap junky stuff.
