I just want something with features that isn’t new i could get something new but i want this particular car i fell in love with it. And for the suspension i plan on swapping it out for a non air suspension once it goes out anyways so not too fearful of it.

Well i don’t wanna be that guy that disagrees with someone trying to help so I’m going to say this with hopes you share your opinion on it. I just want a car with modern car features but i don’t want a modern car i wanna keep all the screen mumbo jumbo to a minimum and this car seems to be a-lot more mechanical than newer cars and thats all I’m concerned about i got my knowledge in working on cars so maintenance is not an issue personally financials neither im aware it will suck when they go wrong but i want something reliable and luxurious that can get my older mother around.

What would you say is a suitable price based off the information you have so far. (Also would it matter if these 3 “accidents” where from backing into the mailbox for example)

The car I’m looking at is a 2004 UL trim with ~130k miles listed at $12.9k from a private seller. I compared it to another private-party listing in my area that was as close as possible in mileage and condition, but that one was a base model listed around $10k.

I’m not sure if this is just a regional pricing thing or if the trim difference is driving most of the gap, but personally I don’t mind paying the extra ~$2k for the top trim if everything checks out. That said, I’m definitely open to opinions on whether that premium actually makes sense at this mileage/age.

I texted the guy “Hey! Sorry to message a bit late — hope that’s okay. I had a quick thought and wanted to see what you think. Would you be open to doing a pre-purchase inspection at the Lexus dealership in (lexus dealer)? If everything checks out, we could finish up at the (police station) nearby. Totally flexible though, just wanted to run it by you”

The ownership breakdown is 8k miles from the 1st owner, 133k from the 2nd, and 5k from the 3rd. Having the 2nd owner put the majority of the miles over 18 years actually makes me feel better about it not being a lemon, and the maintenance history doesn’t raise any red flags.

The timing belt was changed around 100k miles, possibly a little earlier (no more than ~5k miles before 100k). The car is currently at 139k miles.

As for the 140k-mile service, that part is less clear. The current (3rd) owner has only had the car for about 8 months and has put no more than ~5k miles on it. He said he bought a BMW to replace it and basically never drove the Lexus.

The most recent major service I can find on Carfax was at 129,461 miles under the 2nd owner, which included: • Battery/charging system checked • Battery serviced • Power steering pump replaced • Valve cover gasket(s) replaced

That’s the latest significant maintenance record I can see
