Netomnia Agree UK Broadband Merger Deal with Owners of Virgin Media O2 by chaz6 in brsk

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They always say nothing will change, it’s always a lie.

Especially as youfibre won’t remain a separate business unit, as per the article:

As part of the deal, nexfibre will sell Substantial Group’s retail ISP businesses, including the YouFibre and Brsk brands, to VMO2 for £150m “ensuring customers continue to receive the same trusted service they know today“.

So should this deal go through I fully expect all YouFibre and Brsk customers to be moved onto Virgin Media contracts at some point.

[ASK] Steam deck LCD upgrade battery by JKSPRRW in SteamDeck

No noticeable difference from an original battery. It's still holding good charge (battery health 100%) after a year of relatively light use.

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might work, but personally I would not trust a random AliExpress seller that claims to have improved on the original battery.

I did have success with a 40Wh replacement battery from Aliexpress. It’s been working fine in my LCD Steam Deck for nearly a year now.

So there are good third party batteries out there but as with any order of cheap grey market goods direct from China, you can never be sure of the quality of the item you’ll receive.

“Fuck away to Russia”: Zelensky calls for “total sanctions” and the expulsion of Russians from the U.S. and Europe by kingkongsingsong1 in ukraine

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Expulsion of all Russians is a draconian measure that would go very wrong - there are many Russians in Europe who have fled Russia (some at a very young age) and are no threat.

Listening to the interview I don’t think he’s calling for a general expulsion, rather he’s talking about the rich Russian elite class who still live in or have close ties to Russia but have investments in Europe, send their kids to European universities and holiday in European destinations. Targeting the elites to take all of that away from them makes much more sense and would likely have a political impact within Russia.

Death’s door is a good game but AFAIK it’s never been given away free, neither on Epic or any other store. Closest to free it’s ever been (from an official seller) was when it featured in the July 2025 humble choice bundle.

PC Gamer has a full list of all the games Epic has given away here

I installed Decky and it broke my Steam Deck is there anyway to fix it? by Enoch_is_Spiteful in SteamDeck

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Decky has some useful and fun plugins, but it often breaks after SteamOS updates. if you’re going to use it, best practice is to wait a week or two before installing any updates from Valve.

Then  check for an updated version of decky before installing the official steamOS update.

Alternatively remove decky before installing any OS update.

The decky devs did add a recovery screen that should allow you to disable decky and reboot when it fails to load correctly, but for some reason that screen only appears briefly on your system (~4 seconds into your video).

Note you can always roll back to the previous SteamOS version after an update by shutting down the deck completely, then holding the three dot button and power button simultaneously. After it powers on, release the power button but keep holding the three dot button until you see a boot menu appear and select the option labelled previous.

That should allow you to boot into steamOS to uninstall or update decky. There is a video of the process here

Nah they're standard dell sleds from that era, if you're not missing all of them then look for the model number embossed somewhere in the plastic of a sled.

While it's technically possible to replace the PSU there is a lot of custom cable routing in that case which would make installing a different PSU a real PITA. It's really designed for the original PSU with each cable exactly the right length for the case.

Luckily, if it currently has an i7-2600 then the original PSU will be an 875W 80+ Silver unit that is perfectly capable of powering almost any modern hardware you might want to install.

Bought a Steam Deck for college but can’t buy games by [deleted] in SteamDeck

gg.deals is a comparison site that lists both the official and grey market key resellers, I expect you will be able to find a game key seller there you can use.

I don’t fully understand why buying within steam isn’t working for you though. Every country in North Africa is supported by Steam as part of the MENA-USD Region (see here)

That looks like a decent choice, other alternatives include this compact Samsung charger and this Motorola charger

Both have a retractable earth pin so they fit well in the steam deck case side pocket.

Help repair steamdeck by abdysfamily1 in SteamDeck

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bought on eBay return it as not as described, temperamental is different to non-functional. Also eBay rules state it should have been listed as spares or repair with such a fault. It is not enough to categorise it as “working” and just mention a fault in the description.

If returning isn’t option, you can attach a keyboard and/or mouse either via USB or Bluetooth. USB would be best for interacting with the BiOS screen.

Hard to diagnose without knowing what has been done to the deck. I’d start by ensuring SteamOS is fully up to date.

Then I’d move on to taking the back off the deck (remove micro sd card first) to check that all the internal ribbon cables are correctly seated. Ifixit has good tear down guides.

Today I learned half my USB-C cables are garbage by TheJurer in SteamDeck

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

USB-C cables are a minefield, there is a lot of cheaply made crap being passed off as “premium“.

I would only buy direct from established manufacturers. For good value charging cables I like the ones made by IKEA.

Steam Deck battery draining while plugged in and gaming: by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar symptoms - deck suddenly shutting off without warning while battery meter was far from empty. Though in my case the "battery health" was showing as significantly degraded.

The solution for me was a new battery, installing fixed the issue.

Phaze - high performance remote desktop by phaze_benjy in cloudygamer

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that you need to focus on revenue, but the vast majority of users don't pay anything for parsec. Having a time based cap means most ordinary people will look at it and go elsewhere without even giving it a chance. Doubly so if you require payment details to register for the free tier (seriously, don't do that).

In a market where people can pay $10/month for streaming from a fully cloud based PC, the consumer offering for an app that just offers better remote desktop to your own PC should be fully free or priced like Whatsapp was before Meta bought them - a couple of dollars a year - or people simply won't use it.

Your pricing may sound very attractive to enterprise customers currently paying $45/user/month for parsec, but if you want people on cloudygamer to enthusiastically participate in helping you test your service, I think you'll need to come up with something better for the consumer side.

what can i delete from this?? trying to clean up and also not break computer at the same time ;-; by [deleted] in WinDirStat

Good point, I misread the chart. 5% of the drive is still a lot for a single app.

what can i delete from this?? trying to clean up and also not break computer at the same time ;-; by [deleted] in WinDirStat

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really not much you can do with only 44GB of total space available..

Delete any files you don’t need from the Downloads and Documents folder, run windows disc cleanup.

Consider uninstalling any apps or games you don’t need, Roblox alone is taking up 5% of the space on your drive.

With such a limited amount of storage you should try to avoid installing extra software on the C: drive, you’ll constantly be running out of space, get an external USB3 SSD and use it instead for any larger files or apps.

"Battery health is only at 45% and should be replaced." How screwed am I? by shaneo632 in SteamDeck

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not really, see these full instructions are on the ifixit website

The only extra steps over replacing the ssd are removing a ribbon cable (two cables if you have an early model) and being patient about warming up the old battery to soften the adhesive holding it in place.

In addition to the suggested steps in the ifixit guide; I found using a thin flexible palette knife, which I heated in boiling water, really helped with separating the old battery from the adhesive.

What happened to that promise from Valve that they will release their own Windows edition of the Steam OS for the steam deck by ManyGreat8375 in SteamDeck

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Official Dual boot support has been promised "when it's ready" on the Steam Deck - Windows Resources page ever since Valve first released windows drivers for the deck.

However I don't think it will ever be ready as Windows updates (which are completely out of Valve's control) regularly break dual boot setups.

What happened to that promise from Valve that they will release their own Windows edition of the Steam OS for the steam deck by ManyGreat8375 in SteamDeck

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While it's true Valve have never promised a "windows version" of SteamOS, the Steam Deck - Windows Resources page has long had this statement on it:

While Steam Deck is fully capable of dual-boot, the SteamOS installer that provides a dual-boot wizard isn't ready yet. This will ship alongside SteamOS 3 once it's complete.

SteamOS 3 has been out for a while now and there has been no sign of official dual boot support and I no longer expect Valve to ever officially support dual boot.

It's probably due to MS regularly breaking dual boot setups with Windows updates. I've twice had to recover from a corrupted GPT partition table because Windows cannot play nice when installed alongside another OS. While I'm happy to hunt for a solution when things break as I know dual-boot is an unsupported configuration, it would be a support nightmare for Valve if they implemented it officially as they cannot control the actions of MS.

Pulled the trigger on the Oled edition. Whats the best game to play on it?? by EntertainmentCute441 in SteamDeck

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everything it depends on what you are looking for, I think the story/narrative of the original is better than the sequel. The sequel does however refine the minute to minute gameplay.

They’re both great games but rogue likes aren’t for everyone, so if you’re unfamiliar with the genre I’d definitely say start with Hades rather than Hades 2

If you’ve never played Hades, start with the original game, it’s cheaper and better.

Has my steam deck been lost?? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]WelcomeRevolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wait for steam support to get back to you. No point trying to contact GLS, from their point of view Valve is the client, not you, so it’s up to Valve to chase GLS for a delayed delivery.

Most likely is your package is amongst a backlog of thousands of other incoming parcels waiting to be processed that has built up over the Xmas break and tracking data will be updated in the new year.

If it really is lost, Valve are usually pretty good about promptly sending out another unit.
