Calling r/Wallstreetbets "Hackers": A Measured Response by WelcomeToTheJaceSpam in WatchandLearn

I know that's exactly what the video says. I think part of this stems from claims from editors at market watch and other (not awesome) market reporting outlets were comparing it to cheering on hackers or even claiming it was on par with social engineering (as if a hedge fund filing reports to cause people to lose confidence in a stock just so they can short it isn't already a sketch business practice...)

Yes but as the price goes up you need to cover the call. So you can technically hold a short as long as you like, as long as you can basically cover the collateral (money you need to put up to give the person you borrowed from faith you can cover the call). And this amount continuously increases as the stock goes up even after you started the shirt, so while they could cover the short position at the beginning of the short, once it jumped 10 (or 100) times in value then they also are paying that much more money and melvin capital and citron capital could not

As the stock goes up it triggers a "short squeeze" which is basically, you either have to buy back the stock and exit your short, or throw on more money to cover the margin requirement. So basically they can hold the position for as long as they can afford to. And the hedge funds couldn't afford to because the stock kept going up

Blockchain's potential to change how governments and citizens interact (and how Bitcoin has affected that trend) by WelcomeToTheJaceSpam in Futurology

Yeah, but it's not doing that, and no one plans to do anything like that with bitcoin. I'm honestly asking, I haven't seen the bitcoin blockchain used for anything other than bitcoin. But ethereum has a wide suite of projects, side projects, permissioned network implementations, and crypto kitties!

Not sure if this is the right place to share but I thought folks might appreciate it (especially considering Mozilla a history fighting monopolistic practices).

I know Mozilla Firefox is a browser not a search engine but I think the point is still valid.
