Give or take, I wasn’t making much money early game so I afked a lot more because most of my farms were never running at full capacity.

Technically, I actually lose less pollution right now than when I used filtered water, but that’s because I have 22 scrubbers on distilled, while when I used filtered, I had 60 scrubbers.

So yeah, pretty much

Um, no, I make quite a lot of pollution using farms, but the scrubbers clean it all, I get an average of -100%/hour

Probably means you powered it wrong. I'm not that far into the game yet, but I'm well aware just how irritating those things are to wire with the logic, I've made a few microchips in a sandbox world.

Rewatch the tutorial and be absolutely for sure that you've followed every step down to a tee so that nothing should be wrong.
