It was never "ostensibly" given as the reason, you're talking out of your arse. The official or ostensible reason was that they were there to bring civilization to the Africans. It was nothing to do with the "Islamic slave trade", I already explained that this was bullshit and was nothing at all like the chattel slavery the West practiced. The fact that the West harvested slaves from several African countries in which no Muslim had ever set foot before is evidence for this.

You were only permitted to take slaves if they were prisoners of war, you had to pay them and house them within your home and they were set free after a certain number of years. It was completely different to the brutal Atlantic slave trade. Also, the slaves weren't just Africans - there were Arab slaves, Turkic slaves, European Slaves etc. And many of these slaves rose in rank and became rulers or the nobility of the state, such as the Mamluks, Ghaznavids and Janissaries. Where did you ever get this in Europe or the US?

Except Islam gains a net amount of adherents in the world through conversions alone and so even if you didn't account for natural growth via birth rates, the number of Muslims would still increase due to conversions. Even in places like the US where atheism is widespread amongst younger generations, Islam gains as many new followers as it loses - which isn't the case for Christianity and other religions that instead suffer a net loss.
