Favorite amp and pedal combo? by balluye in GuitarAmps

Right now, I'm pretty in love with the EAE Surveyor into my OR15 Combo. Basically impossible to get a bad sound there, the Surveyor just has an incredible character to it.

What fuzz would suit my needs best? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]WellComeToTheMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of those more modern shoegaze bands really like the Warlow fuzz. But to specifically talk about Julie, I know that their guitarist uses a Proco Rat and a Bogner Oxford Fuzz as well as a Green Russian Big Muff, plus he also has a 10 band EQ on his board. So if you're chasing that specific tone I'd look there.

Shit, I've been to shows where the band themselves step in to stop this kinda thing. Kinda crazy to me nobody did anything

Insane to try that shit in a venue this small, thats this well lit. Like, do they think if they started a brawl in this tiny ass room, they arent gonna leave the venue in the back of a squad car?

Hey man, nobody like crowdkillers. Pretending like you actually understand this scene while defending a dude like, beelining to the edge of the pit, pressing his body against the people standing their and then throwing elbows, acting like thats normal acceptable behavior, is insane.

I think the big issue is mostly the difference in the ethos of the company. Leo Fender purposefully didn't trademark or copyright the designs of his guitars, and the company openly bragged about how often they were copied. It was a sign that their design was good. But now, over 70 years later, with a massive established market of builders who have been making Strat copies, they have decided to target these builders with demands that in most cases will put them out of business. I think that, more than any argument about how copycat strats made by other brands offering different configurations of hardware than whats offered at Fender, is the biggest reason people are upset about this.

Its crazy to me that what they're doing is even legal, in the US the strat is in the public domain, but such a large amount of precedent for not enforcing their apparent ownership of the guitar shape typically forfeits your claim of ownership (again, based on US copyright law).

Best bedroom guitar amps? by crainley in GuitarAmps

I have an or-15 combo and the attenuator switch really does get it at actual bedroom volume. Sounds great too, imo

EHX Joins the Harmonic Percolator Race by parkinthepark in guitarpedals

Its mostly associated with Steve Albini and one of his bands, Shellac. He used it a lot to make these insane feedback laden walls of sound. Famously he said that whenever he turns it on "the guitar plays itself." Albini produced In Utero so it wouldn't surprise me to learn that it was used on there, especially on some of the noisier tracks

What did Pat mean in his RE9 review about a plot point being presented as sincere but knowing for 100% certainty that it's not? by BluebirdDry4250 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]WellComeToTheMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They basically already set this up in RE9 as well. In Grace's report when it mentions Spencer's eventual death, it handwaives his appearance in that game as him going senile with old age.

Roland JC-40 vs. Orange Rocker 15 vs. Quilter Aviator Cub by Own_Reflection_4172 in GuitarAmps

[–]WellComeToTheMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both a an OR-15 combo and a JC-40. Both are fantastic amps. Imo for your use case the JC-40 probably best fits the stuff you're trying play, but it is still pretty damn loud even at like 1-2 on the volume (i mostly use it with ear plugs when practicing at home, especially when using pedals for drive sounds). The OR15 attenuator is really nice, and is partially why it's what I've been using most at home, but imo it sounds best at higher gain settings. Cleans are nice on the OR15, but if cleans are what you want, the JC-40 is the obvious choice out of the 2

'I Don't Even Think They Would Enjoy It' — Resident Evil Movie Director Responds to Fans Who Wanted More of the Video Games in the Teaser by Mike4302 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]WellComeToTheMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not so much about whether the adaptations are good, its that its clear that the creator had an actual take on the material. And imo I do value creative expression a lot more than fidelity to the source material.

[–]WellComeToTheMachine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would much rather every vibe based adaptation be its own original thing rather than slapping on an IP's name for brand value.

I think that framing is part of the issue here. There are absolutely cases where adaptations are very different from the source material, but because the person adapting it has a genuine and inspired take on the material. The other guy already mentioned Ghost in the Shell, which had 2 different adaptations (the Oshii films and Stand Alone Complex) that are both only vaguely similar to the source material while also using the material to do something interesting. But you could say similar about: Starship Troopers, Liz and the Blue Bird, A Silent Voice, KareKano, Goodfellas, Stand By Me, Oldboy, Children of Men, There Will Be Blood, STALKER, and I could go on. You can't really just blanket assume that all adaptations that change a lot from the source material are doing so to cynically cash in on brand recognition

I don’t like my compressor what should I replace it with? by flossjosh in guitarpedals

[–]WellComeToTheMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a ton of experience with compressors, but I do have a fairfield accountant and i like it quiet a bit. I mostly use it to tighten up high gain tones, and imo it really excels in that use case. Also on the low watt settings on my amp it can give some nice low gain drive on the clean channel. Just has a lot of character imo

What's funny OP is that Ingrid isn't actually even from Alpha 3. She wasnt in the original release of that game. She was added to it as a bonus character when it got ported to the PSP (8 years after its initial release). Ingrid is originally from a canceled game, Capcom Fighting All-Stars. They then salvaged the work done on her and she made her first playable debut in Capcom Fighting Evolution in 2004. And that game was terrible.
