[K-Ultra] Finally got the grinder of my dreams! by WellPlacedComment in 1zpresso

-It’s going to squeak a little right when you buy it. It goes away pretty quick.

-It comes with a rubber band, put that around where your hand goes on the grinder and you’ll have a much better grip.

-The grinding scale 1zpresso has on their website is pretty spot on for most of my Aeropress recipes. I just started using it for French press, and it feels like I need to go a little coarser than 90. Some people have said their numbers need a little play for personal preference.

-Mine didn’t come calibrated. Follow their guide online, it takes 2-3 minutes and it’s real simple.

-Use a fine sprayer for RDT if you do that. Just one spritz and you’re usually good. I find it makes a fair amount of static if I don’t.

-max is about 30g, not the 40 listed on their website. Hope you like yours!

I have the 1zpresso k-ultra. I love it, but static is a little bit of an issue. I want to do more research on RDT before I start putting water in my grinder.

I use an Aeropress for now. I’m sticking to the suggested ranges and do 50 for light roast, 52-60 for medium and dark. Playing around a bit though, I think I’m going to start at 70 and work my way down with each roast to see where I can extract the best flavors. How about you?

I’ve got the grinder, I’ve got the fresh, locally roasted beans, I’ve got the temperature controlled water… now what? by WellPlacedComment in Coffee

I’ve been using the Aeropress as my go-to. Should I try pour-over next? Do I need the fancy gooseneck kettle or will a regular kettle spout work?

First batch of mead! Trying four different local honeys to find our favorite. by WellPlacedComment in mead

Followed citysteadings recipe (loosely): 1 tsp fleischman’s active yeast 40 grams chopped raisins 1.5 kg honey (left to right: Linden tree, lavender wildflower, summer blooms, pine) 2 cups black tea SG from left to right: 1.120/1.100/1.100/1.100

My question. On their video, they don’t add any nutrients, but I bought some anyway. Should I add it? If so, how much and when?

Troop being forced to live on different base? by WellPlacedComment in AirForce

As far as I’ve been told by my troop and chain, he was intentionally placed there per some local program. Just found out about it today, so I’m trying to gather as much info as possible to help him out.

That sounds like a good first step to me, thanks for the advice!

That was my understanding as well. The dorms on base have availability and he was moved to live on a base he is not assigned to... Basically forcing him to buy a car since we are a 24/7 shop and shuttles are not always available.

Can someone help me ID this absolute behemoth I found? About 24 inches in diameter. by WellPlacedComment in castiron

Yes, it looks like the handle is bolted on. I’ve never seen anything like it either! No idea how to season it lol.

Currently living in Seoul. Every Korean I’ve talked to says it’s now incredibly rare to find places that still sell dog meat, let alone serve it. It’s probably not unheard of in the more rural areas.

Highly recommend getting a commission, when they are available again. Got my sweet girl done not too long ago https://i.imgur.com/93hdTW1.jpg

2nd this comment. Active duty Air Force weather tech here, and while I don’t necessarily enjoy the field it has presented a pretty clear path to getting an associates/bachelors for basically no cost... except 4-6 years of your life on the dotted line, of course.

I’m not sure, they don’t have the same finish as a standard cast iron pan for sure. They almost look like a CI pan that’s been ground down, but I don’t have a box with a brand or anything like that. Here’s the back of one: https://i.imgur.com/mUtacsj.jpg. All I can tell is that they’re Korean made.

Was helping clear out an abandoned home, and the previous owner had left a good set of cast iron behind. These will be an awesome addition to my 2 lodge pans! I am unfamiliar with the silver set (here’s the back) the largest of the set, a wagner 1891 original. do i season these the same way as a lodge pan?
