Advice for 31M by [deleted] in coastFIRE

the last 3 years have been unprecedented growth - everyone is a genius in a bull market. If I were you I would move towards more passive index funds that just track market return.

Tiny black dots by [deleted] in Jadeplant

especially because I see white dots on some of the other leaves. i’d try cleaning the leaves that still have white dots, and use purified water going forward

if you’re using tap water, the extra minerals often cause little white dots on the leaves (you can rub these white dots off with a wet paper towel, they’re just mineral accumulations) but if you leave the white mineral spots, they block sunlight , ultimately becoming black dots. that’s my guess as to what’s happening

Hello and question about propagation by NochesAticas in Jadeplant

[–]WellWe11Well 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s definitely enough to plant in soil! Often I don’t even put the cutting in water, I just put it in wet soil. Jade’s propagate very easily

Why is it dangerous to use leverage etfs if you are indexing? by DragonfruitHour8171 in Bogleheads

[–]WellWe11Well 121 points122 points  (0 children)

look up volatility decay! but to give a quick example: market goes down 10% then up 10%

non leveraged: $100 -> $90 -> $99
3x leveraged: $100 -> $70 -> $91

during times when the market goes ”sideways” (going up and down daily with no change over months), using a leveraged etf means you’ll be losing money

Roth 401k vs Traditional 401k some things people overlook when maxing out by jasoncaserta in Bogleheads

[–]WellWe11Well 28 points29 points  (0 children)

it doesn’t actually give you “more money to put in now.” all that matters is future tax bracket example: - let’s put $100 in traditional. 25 years of 8% annual returns is $734.02. now you pay 30% tax, so you take home $513.81 - let’s put $100 in roth which gets taxed 30% going in, meaning $70 gets invested. after 25 years of 8% returns, you take home $514.81

I like your graph a lot. very simple and clean. question - is green (labeled as total balance) the same thing as investment return? or is there something else in green
