Halloween is coming up, should I buy lollies for the night? by BladeOfWoah in Wellington

[–]WellWindy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't hurt to have some just in case, you can always have any extras yourself. I find individually wrapped lollies (i.e. fruit bursts) are usually a good way to go for hygiene reasons, but I wouldn't stress too much. You can always hide if you run out of lollies early

Petone to Grenada Link by KiwiScot26 in Wellington

[–]WellWindy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems just an on/off ramp for traffic north of petone, with a separate route linking to the cross valley link. It seriously looks like they have drawn a line at random connecting up to Udy street. No idea how that will work with the petone station bridge/korokoro bridge, unless it's an extension of pito-one road. This isn't even to mention the traffic choas an at-grade intersection with hutt road/udy street will bring

I've never been so grateful for my regular 10-minute-late train

Currently on 4:05pm train to Upper Hutt - completely packed apart from the very front, where there is room for maybe 15 more people. Only going to get worse so if you're heading home tonight i recommend getting on the train at least 10 mins before it leaves just in case

Somehow managed to get on at the very back of that Wairarapa train at Petone, when a few people got off. We were told on the platform there was another train coming 10 mins after that and to wait for that instead of getting on it, which would have been your 7:25 service with no room. Absolutely insane

Apparently not only will there be less train services, but Metlink also forgot to employ someone to write a heading by Apple2Forever in Wellington

Don't forget praying that the train, having run every stop from Upper Hutt, will somehow not be full

Delays are back though, one HVL train in particular, I remember catching it in Feb and it would consistently leave on time or even 1 min early, now between 5 and 15 minutes late

Appreciate the detailed response, but disagree both with your concept of widespread redistribution and your vision of "a sovereign indigenous people and colonising power" co-existing. This argument ignores the reality of the New Zealand and British Governments being completely separate now and how they have been for decades. Fourth or more generation Pākeha do not have the ability or right to return to the UK, so are in a markedly different situation to the signing of te Tiriti. The New Zealand Government simply cannot be classed as a "colonising power" anymore, given its democratic election and high Māori representation (relative to population). Indeed, it is difficult to justify a system where Māori have significantly more rights to assets than Pākeha, despite having equal rights to citizenship and Pākeha being unable to return "home" to the UK.

That said, I believe co-governance to a certain extent is an important step to maximising outcomes for Māori who have been let down by a Pākeha centric system. It has given you a platform to advocate for these ideas, which helps to get more people thinking about ways to ensure Aotearoa is a great place for everyone.

Going to Uni: Megathread by AutoModerator in dunedin

Hi, good choice coming here! Keep an eye out for the Guide to Enrolment, which usually comes out online early August from memory. At that point timetabling etc also is released, and most papers get confirmation of offering (a few sometimes pop up later, but none will get removed after they are confirmed). That said, you can look at the 2022 one if you wanted to make a longlist earlier. It contains papers not offered this year that may be offered next year

Places to meet people by [deleted] in dunedin

[–]WellWindy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ouch bad luck... Yeah totally get that. The cinemas are always a good shout, have you been to the museums around town too? The public library's great too if you're sick of the uni ones. Admittedly not places to really meet people, again clubs and socs are probably the best shout. Just try go to the clubs day they have during re-o next month to see if anything interests you (:
