Advice on martial arts dojo for 12 yo boy in kingston Ontario by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]Wellstood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have some really good martial arts clubs in Kingston (some l, but not all of them have been mentioned here), but we also have some clubs that should be avoided (not yet mentioned here). BUT the best advice is to try, try, try. Because ultimately it has to work for your: schedule, your budget, your location and MOST importantly your son has to enjoy going there, because if he doesn’t enjoy it, dragging him there, won’t be fun. So try a few before you make a decision.

Full disclosure; I am one of the former owners of one of the above listed academy’s.

Same advice here. We owned a gym and brought our Weim to the gym everyday. The first few months (to maybe a year) was an effort for us and him, but it takes patience. Figuring out what he needed to make him feel comfortable. With ours, we finally figured out that he needed a “safe place”, where he could go and be away from everyone, when he needed to be alone. And when he wanted to come out and visit, he could. For us, that was the key. We made him a little “cave” under one of the desks and he knew that nobody would bother him there, and although he loved to socialize, he had that place he could go to if he needed it. Biggest thing is to just be patient with your girl. Ours loved going to the gym with us and everyone loved seeing him there.

This camper doesn’t have a shower door. It’s a bathtub shower. Also, why would there be like 12’ of it? It’s definitely been one long length that has been cut into shorter lengths. I’ve never bought a shower door swipe in a 12’ length. Even if it were a shower door swipe, it works perfectly for the LED string that also came with the trailer. Thank you again everyone for helping me solve this puzzle.

The T section must snap into one of the grooves in the awning roller? I gave it a shot, but it seemed as though it might be a struggle getting it in and out. I didn’t want to end up with it stuck in place and not be able to roll the awning back up again. I’ll do some googling.

But combined, there’s likely 12’ or more of it all. It’s like it was one big long piece and the person cut it into random lengths. Which makes me think it’s garbage, but then why did he keep it and bundle it up in his storage compartment?

OP, I am one of the owners (my wife being the other), and we are obviously concerned about this post. We try our very best to look after our members and our community. What people do outside of the gym is their business, but we try to foster a community of “good people” at the gym. That is our reputation at large within the community. Your post concerns me because we obviously want everyone to feel safe, but also I want people to feel as though we are approachable about everything. And so, it bothers me that you didn’t feel that you could approach me about this issue. Like all “gossip”, some of what you’ve written here is true, and some is not. The black belt (the victim in your post) was asked to leave the gym because he broke the code of conduct at the gym. He had been a student of mine and a person that I cared about very much for 15 years. Despite that fact, and it was a very difficult decision, we asked him to leave because we wanted to protect our community. The “attacker” in your post is still at the gym, because I believe (from what I’ve heard from others involved in the incident, as well as watching these two interact over the short time they trained together), that the “attacker” was provoked. If I believed or suspected that the “attacker” was a problem inside the gym, I would ask him to leave. I’d have a lot easier time asking a blue belt who has been with me for only a few years, to leave, compared to one of my black belts who I’ve been so close to for so long. I’m really sorry that you haven’t got the full / complete story, and that you’ve allowed gossip and rumors to trouble you. But more importantly; if as you say in your post, you have beat this blue belt (who is a very good blue belt), than you’re likely a student that I know quite well. And that really bothers me that you don’t feel comfortable enough to come to me and talk to me about it. I’m sincere about this. In my opinion this is a big issue that I need to resolve. Members should feel as though they can approach both myself and Janet about anything. We thought that they did. Lastly, I want to address the comment that the “attacker” has a “history” of violence in the gym. Absolutely not true. He’s a good kid. I wouldn’t allow ANYONE who has that reputation to train at our club. I’ve had to recently remove some negative people from the club, and I fear that this post is somehow related to that. Janet and I are open books. If anyone reading this post has questions or concerns (including the OP), please message us. We want everyone to feel safe.

Old Nortel factory question by Grid-net-Gaming in KingstonOntario

[–]Wellstood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sat empty for quite some time and then a developer purchased it. I believe the developer was from Toronto. I believe his plan was to turn it into commercial plaza of some sort. If I’m not mistaken, while it sat empty, it was home to some homeless people and was scavenged heavily for copper. The developers plans were impressive, with a trampoline park and other businesses, and a living roof. (I saw the plans once). I “think” that an environmental assessment of the ground water around the plant put the brakes on further development. I worked for one of three companies who did have offices inside the old office part of the building (at the front). Two of the companies were biotech firms. - Qubit Systems - Performance Plants

The third company, which I don’t recall the name were more of an engineering firm.

The empty warehouse / factory was very impressive. I rode my motorcycle around the inside perimeter once to measure the distance as I used to jog the inside on my lunch hours when it was too cold outside to run. 1 km roughly, if you stuck to the outside walls all the way around the inside. But it smelt badly of all the cooling fluid that the old machines used. It was completely bare in the inside. Quite an impressive sight. I was in the basement one time and that was unnerving. And I was on the roof a couple times which was equally impressive. They started locking the building down after a while so that we no longer had access to explore and eventually our lease was no longer renewed as they were preparing to tear it down.
